    Power steering question.

I have been trying to diagnose a fluid leak for about a year, that is hardly visible. The shop that I took it told me that it is not a big deal ( I hate any type of fluid leaks ). They said that is was leaking from the ps line that goes to the cooler and it is at some point where the rubber meets the hard metal part. Would this be the infamous return line that everyone has a problem with at some point?

I agree with you. I never agree when someone tells me that something leaking is not a big deal.

Replace the line. Driving these cars without powersteering is a great upper body workout, but sucks otherwise.

Yes and when it blows it's a friggin mess and next to impossible to drive (some have burnt the pump without fluid- mine did not)
Bite the bullet and return both before they blow.

Well the shop called me back and said the line wasn't the issue, but a hose clamp on the line was the issue. Does that sound about rite? I know on other cars that would sound about rite, but I know audi decided to do things different.

If you have a 2004, it's probably about time to replace the return line.

From your description of where the leak is, it sounds like someone did a 'cost effective' repair at one point with clamps. The only clamp on the factory return line is at the power steering reservoir as far as I know. If there are clamps anywhere else, I'd question it and have the OEM line put in. My mechanic spliced and clamped my original leaking section only for it to blow again 6 weeks later. OEM line was put in after that.

Well if anyone it would have been the last audi dealer that did work on the car. It wouldn't surprise me if they did that.

This. Don't take the chance, just replace it so you don't have to worry.
