Just curious whether Audi has already released a new 4G (LTE) module for the MMI 3GP / 3G+

If so, can the old one just be replaced by the new one?

    ....

Hard to attach picture ... current module I have is PPIS UMTS, Type BE 9449, #9449GZ0C5115435

Not my photos, all from others.

When you remove the MMI unit it looks like this:

Then you remove the lid & optical drive and it looks like this:

Inside there the telephone module is Harman Becker PPIS UMTS, Type BE 9449, #9449GZ0C5115435:

Inside there the mobile chip is a Telit UC864. In Europe you will have Telit UC864-E Module-AUTO GSM, and in the USA you will have a Telit UC864-AWS-AUTO:

To get faster data we would need to replace the Telit module. The Telit UC864 was the last to use that connector, however there are adapters available to use a more modern chip http://www.roundsolutions.com/shop/p...-UC864-H9.html and https://adaptivemodules.co.uk/index....roduct_ID/1055. A Telit HE910 could do 21Mbps HSPA+ and a Telit LE910 could do 42Mbps.

The question is... would the MMI unit work with it, or would the software need changing for a newer chip?

    Hello,

I found something new that could start this conversation up again. I've reached out to them for more information.

    From the webpage description:

Glyn GFF Cellular (GC864 compatible Module)

Have you been using the GC864-QUAD or UC864-E, UC864-G, UC864-WD series from Telit and found out it is obsolete but need more? If so, we would like to introduce the GFF910 family to you.

Do you have products with these modules inside and want to upgrade them to be 4G (Cat1, Cat 4)/CatM1/NB-IOT compatible without the need to throw away your product and start again. If so, we would like to introduce the GFF910 family to you.

Is the SIM holder on your base Board (ie not on the GC864 module)? If YES then this module is highly likely a solution for you.

Glyn GFF range is an established form factor for cellular communication that has now expanded to Sigfox and LoRa. This allows you the flexibility to deploy your product when and where needed. Our GFF form factor allows for a carrier board that is plug and play compatible on the 80-way connector – the largest pin-out available in the Glyn line. There are also both UART and USB communication options. With robust connectivity options, the pluggable Glyn Cellular, Sigfox and LoRa modules enable you to have the right connectivity solution for any product application.
