    50,000 miles I think.

The website says to tap the filter to see if dusty / time to clean.

50,000... Lol. I change and clean mine to a second one I have every 5k miles. I have two filters and change them out during every oil change. Second filter makes for a quick swap.

And make sure you check your vacuum hose connected to the nibble of the intake. I notice the one that was provided with the intake cracked as it was not really heat resistant within the engine bay.

That cycle seems excessive, including the engine oil change. Do you drive in more challenging scenarios?

Uh, no. Completely unnecessary in normal conditions. I've be running K&N style filters for years and have had zero issues going 25K+ miles between cleanings. My cars have run consistent traps at the track and oil analysis' show no issues with filtration.

There are a few threads on this already, particularly on oil changes. I don't mind paying a little more for extra care.

Cleaning your air filter every 5K miles is the equivalent of changing your oil ever 1K miles. Completely unnecessary waste of time and money.

i'm sorry but this thread is retarded. if you have ANY sort of intake, whether it's stock airbox or aftermarket, you should ALWAYS check your filters at service intervals, regardless. you really had to make a thread to tell people not to be lazy and dumb like yourself?

    DOUCHE BARGE ALERT

    Seriously?

Maybe you should read. This was after 10000 miles, and I just serviced the car. I was shocked at how dirty the filter got in the last 5k since I changed the oil. How exactly am I being lazy or dumb?

Yes the K&N cleaning kit is fine. Comes with cleaner and the oil. If you just have the oil some simple green will work also as cleaner. I use simple green to clean my RC nitro race car filter and its a paper type just like the roc euro and simple green works great. But with nothing having any oil for my new roc euro I'm going to buy the kit from the local auto parts store so ill get the spray and oil together. Just make sure you throughly dry the filter before you apply the oil.

Like others have said a 2nd filter is good to have

I use the K&N air filter cleaning kit as well. Again, I would suggest everyone monitor your filter before bashing others about waste of time and money. If buying a second filter and one cleaning kit is a waste of money, you have no business owning an S4 or even a car at that point. Not doing maintenance is a waste of time and money. It takes no more than 10 minutes to switch out a filter and clean the back up for next time. This allows no down time during switching. Or you can clean the dirty filter later if you are really in a rush.

well 5k in anything other than dusty roads is to quick to clean it. Id say around 15K for normal driving unless you run threw a dust storm. But i would just check it and then see if it needs cleaned. i wouldn't just clean it every 5K. And i would buy a 2nd filter because I'm to dam lazy to clean the one i have and wait for it to dry then have to oil it and put it back on. I can clean it when i have time let it dry over night or whatever and oil it and put it away for next time so i don't have to worry about it when i replace it.

I knew it was some insanely long interval.

The point about inspecting still stands too. It's really dependent on driving conditions. I've had a 5k interval due to construction sites, and a 30k of almost all highway miles (still fine, but sold the car).
