    Calling Carbon Fiber Hood Guys

Although I have been around for a while, I am a noob to the body stuff. Here is the scenario, the hood is rock chipped to hell and I am looking into skipping the respray and just going with a carbon hood being the car is black anyway. I did some research read that you need pins but some people don't, blah blah blah.

So What exactly do you need, how do the pins work with the hood latch, can or can you not use the hydraulic piston and where is a good place to get them.

I think all this would depend on who makes the hood, and if it's a direct oem-style replacement.

The cheaper you go with carbon, the worse it's gonna be. Don't skimp out.

I have a VIS on my car that I've had for about 5 years... paint matched... never ran pins.

I'm running no pins on mine, but had to add some expanding foam to fill out the hood and then work on the alignment - it lifted initially. I think the alignment part is really the secret sauce, if air catches under the front the hood is going to lift, if you have it positioned just right it should be fine. With all of that said, there is an RS4 guy who had his Vorsteiner hood pop up on track and cause thousands of dollars in damage, so definitely at your own risk to skip the pins...

Just had the same problem- could not match the paint on my 06 a4- i wrapped it in 1080 3M vinyl and have had it on for about 6 weeks now- believe it or not - no marks- I travel 68 miles each way on major roads doing 75 and so far it is really holding up- The car is silver and I wrapped it in Satin Black- i wasted $$ on trying to match the paint and wrapped it for $50 and 1 hours time-
