    ELM327 plus DashCommand app

Hi all tuners and geeks amongst us...

I just thought I'd share some info on this..

I bought a cheap ELM327 OBD-II wi-fi dongle from Ebay for £10 and connected it to the diagnostics port under my steering wheel column. Simple - 2 second job, plugged straight in our of the packet. It then acts as a wireless access point giving direct access to your ECU.

I downloaded DashCommand which is an app at a cost of £7 from the app store, not sure about Android or Windows but it's excellent! I connected my iPhone 6 to the dongle through the wi-fi settings on my phone and the app automatically connected. There are free apps and others also but the others didn't test so well, Dashcommand was my choice.

You can record your testing and play it back or email the data to yourself, you can change your dashboards and build custom gauges from hundreds of different settings and options.

Here is a screen shot from my iPhone of my dashboard as I'm accelerating from start. You can even do 0-60mph timing tests etc etc and it's pin point accurate.

Dashcommand apparently won second place at SEMA for best mobile performance product...

Just thought I'd share, it's great if you're wanting to test changes you're making. Take a baseline at stock and then again after you make a change..

Not bad for a £20 investment...if anything about of geeky fun!

The mini would be better as it does stick down a little, the only thing I found though is that you can only get bluetooth mini version and apparently the wi-fi is better... Might be something to do with the bluetooth interfering with your MMI.. Can't remember where I got that info though..

Have you tried Torque or any idea how Dashcommand compares to that app, people on here have been running that for years.

Nice one, thanks, I did try that one thanks Mate but felt DashCommand was giving me more options. I'll give it another try tonight but it looks like I might need to buy the full app to compare - cheers.

OK, I could do with a little help/guidance...

I've done a number of standing starts to around 60mph and logged the data in DashCommand and every run shows a reading of 480bhp/357Kw from my SQ5... I've realised that no matter what setting I change my tuning box to it's the same reading (including when switched off!), there is no way my SQ is pulling 480bhp...

Can anyone explain why I'm getting these readings? I know a lot of power is lost through drive train, gearbox, wheels, etc but has anyone on here used this before and no why the power reading from the ECU is so high?

    Thanks

Looks to be a decent app! I've tried a number of these with my ELM in my 2013 Q5 3T, and the one problem they all had was with reading fuel use ... but I see it works with your car(?)

Yeah DashCommand definitely seems the best app. It's great for recording, playback and sending data and the visuals are great!

I'm still confused why I'm reading 480bhp when my car should be nearer 300bhp..?

Does it read IATs? I think you have given me the perfect solution to my problem.

    Patu,

I forgot about this thread but bought the micro wifi one. Awesome bit of kit. What boost does it say yours runs at. Mine is 23.5psi. Thanks for the prompting.
