    Headlight Bulb Install

Got an error saying that "Left dipped headlight/main beam headlight". I bought a new bulb, but cant figure out how to install it. Do I have to take out the whole headlight assembly to put the bulb in?

Is there a DIY out there that shows it for B8?

First off, was your headlight actually burned out? Dipped normally means the auto level is not working.
to change the bulb, there are two screws in the top of the housing you have to remove then slide the housing out of the bumper. From there it is easy.

The bulb does turn on but after 20 seconds it dies off and I get the message on the dash.

A buddy of mine showed me how to do it on my A5. You first remove 4 screws from the plastic cover over your grille and intake duct. Then push/slide that cover away from you. (Towards the engine bay) Then you remove the top two screws on your headlight housing and loosen the two lower ones that is behind the headlight housing inside the engine bay. Then you can pull the headlight housing out. It's as easy as it gets ;) I can snap some pictures tomorrow if needed ;)

Does it have the AFS? If so, check the small plastic control trim, it may fall off...

If its just the burned bulbs, you don't even have to remove the whole headlight housing to replace the HID bulbs (since its for driver's side, no airbox, plenty of space..)

EDIT: Just simply 1. remove the round cover in the back, 2. unplug the wire, 3. twist the bulbs off and reverse the order of install....

Yeah, you don't have to take it out for the drivers side ;) but since I have ten thumbs and I am a detailing freak, I took them out anyway and gave en a good clean while I was at it.

Yup, the bulb was worn out. Ordered it off ebay and installed it. Everything went back to normal :)
