    Anyone running a GTX2860R?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wondering if anyone is running a GTX2860R? Where did you get your tune? Opinions on this turbo? Possibly vs a K04?

I was only able to find one post of somebody with this turbo and it was about fueling issues.

You would be happier with the gtx2867r..
You could use any big turbo tune just make sure
the tune is good for 25 to 30 psi range as those turbos work
    Better at high boost levels.

I ran one close (the 2863), and loved it. Canadian is running a 2863 now, and loving it too. I didn't know they made a GTX in the 2860, but it would probably do ine. The 2863 spools close to a K04 but more up top. The 2867 is also a great turbo! That is what MEC is running.

Is it correct to say that a 2863 should spool quicker than a 2867 and the 2860 should spool quicker than the 2863? I was looking at the gtx2860r because I was looking for quickest spool possible in the 28 series and was thinking the gtx would help on the top end? Does this sound correct? I wanted a K04 but was worried that I wouldn't be happy with it's power output. This car will most likely never see a track so any high speeds would be essentially useless but was looking for great acceleration.

Well the gtx2863r has the same compressor map as
A gt2860rs on the low end but can breath a whole lot more up top.
As far as spool ( lag )goes tuning can eliminate some of that and your supporting
    Mods would be factors also.

You can't really compare a k04 to a gtx series turbo.

A lot of people underestimate the K04 turbo for our cars. They really are a pretty stout little snail. That said, the GTX 2860 should give you a bit more up top with comparable spool times. It take a little more work and thought to get installed though, as the K04 fits just like a K03 for the most part (depends on which brand you buy).

Can you clarify? I've never been in a car with a gt or gtx series turbo.

I was looking at this one from ATP turbo with .64A/R.

Sweet. Thanks. I wanted make sure I wasn't looking at a bad turbo choice for our car since I couldn't really find much info of anyone else using it.

It's not that it's a bad turbo, it's just that when most people go through that much work and spend that amount of money, they generally go with a bigger turbo. It's the same price to get a GTX 2867 I believe, so most people skip over the smaller choice.

Private message "derrek" he lives in arizona and has a k04 car thats pretty quick! I was just in it this weekend.

Otherwise a gtx2867 is an awesome turbo, 2863 is the smallest I would go.

I have run both a K04 and a GTX2863R. They are definitely different beasts. I actually very much like the K04. It is a very nice turbo for our cars.

Why is it the smallest you'd go?

Which one did you find to be a more fun daily driver? Do the GTX28xx spool quick enough for the power to be frequently usable as a daily?

Sorry, for so many questions on this I've read so many turbo reviews and garrett's site but I have nothing to compare it to but my k03 since it's the only turbo I've ridden in and was dissapointed by going from Apr stage 1 to 2 and then 2+. I got the car when it was already stage 1 Apr and it was fun at first but now it just feels flat since I got used to it.

To me if I'm going to invest hours upon hours of work and tons of money I need a minimum power level that id be happy with, the 2867 did that for me, now I'm looking at bigger turbos, I don't think I would have been happy with something so small as a Gtx2860, needs much more flow.

Allright thanks, I think I need to go read more of Garrett's site to start trying to understand the compressor maps it sounds like.

Turbo choice is really based on your needs and wants out of the car. Honestly if you want a very quick spooling car look at a k04 or gtx2860r. If you want just a tad more up top but still spool around 3-3500 go with the gtx2863r.

I have to agree with EPY. The KO4 isn't going to be your best choice for raw power. But its a real fun turbo to . The power starts @ 2k rpm. About 4.5k it starts to taper off. Well at least mine away.

THIS!!! There is a reason there are so many options out there. People are looking for different results. But what some have said, and OP you've admitted as much; eventually as a modder, you will crave more. Some do another turbo swap, some get a new car...... But with the right tune, I think a gtx2860, will still put a smile on your face.

Unitronic would be my choice for a tune with a gtx I would pick the larger of the two the spool times are pretty close.

I think just about every dyno plot I've looked at for the OEM K04 shows that it makes peak power around 5,500 rpm and then slightly drops off to redline. It's actually a very wide powerband, it just doesn't make huge numbers.

I'm running the GTX2860r that your asking about. I'm also running the ATP manifold and intercooler. This turbo is killer. I've ran a 13.5 on a dying oem clutch and halfway decent tune(on Maestro) and I suck on the drag strip. Aluthman(Adam) has been helping me out with my tune and I can tell just from the seat of my pants the car is much faster now. Do it.
