So to all you city guys, I just got a 3.0tfsi q5 with the sports package, black optics and 20" wheels. Coming from an s4 I'm already sick of the body roll in the stock suspension, I was thinking about adding h & r sports springs but I hit potholes all the time and I'd really love to not feel every little thing, I just want that better handling...and it wouldn't hurt if my car looked a bit lower and meaner

The ride is pretty much like a lowered car with thin walled tires. a little stiff but not bouncy. we just drove to Sowo from Tampa with the Q loaded with parts and it was a nice ride.

We also put some 20mm spacers up front and 25mm in the rear and there is NO rubbing at all. Wheels are 22x9 et38.

    Here is a new pic..

KW HAS springs here, just over 60mm drop. I am all the way down on the right rear, the others are adjusted to have the car level.

As far as alignment, the front camber is slightly out of spec, not too terrible, but when the tires go, I will get the Stern adjustable control arm kit and another alignment.

If you are sick of the body roll, also do Eurocode sways front and rear with your springs. It will be a thing of the past then.

anyone on here install OE Euro springs? moderate reduction in height but possibly retains all the original functionality and drivability.

I did. Dropped 1" only on all 4 corners. HR sports drop an inch or slightly more from there.

Also I swapped springs alone since I figured most everyone with HAS or HR did the same.

Tighter ride for sure. More comfortable with the family in it.

Not as cool looking as say S-fore, Mops etc.

My two reasons were ride quality and being able to pull up and park at a curb or parking block.

Hate to take over this thread, but a question for anyone lowered.... Have you ever hit a big dip on the highway at high speed, and hear a bottoming out sound!? I've noticed this a couple of times when going 65+ and hitting a good rise and fall bump and it honestly sounds like my back is bottoming out in the wheel well... Am I crazy or is this is a possibility?

if you're on stock shocks i would imagine it's the shock itself reaching it's limits.

I actually just realized a piece of my undercarriage cover has been slightly hanging and a portion of it has ripped. If it wasn't that then I'm pretty sure your 100% right. Gonna get the B8 bilsteins next. Do you have them?

I'm rolling on 22" on an air ride system and I have best of both worlds. I too was think of the h&r but i wanted the look as well as the ride . When ever you go up in size your suv will get a little stiff no matter what, I run 20" with my winter set and yes it's bit softer. However I love the 22" all around I can drive hard when I want to and the suv feels good. However I'm NYC and no matter what your on rims size tire size u will feel the roads

I've been fine with that setup on some pretty brutal NY/NJ roads. It's obviously less rough with the 20s, but if you're ok with the ride on the H&Rs, I don't think it's going to be that big a difference for you to go to the 21s. I've noticed a bigger difference just from running different tire pressures.

Never bottomed out and I have stock bump stops.

The 275/40-20 are def more comfy than the 21's... especially with high frequency bumps... I have been thinking lately that I may leave my 20's on all year. The wider tires look more aggressive, and they make the car 1/3 inch lower (WOW! ), and no Q ever came with Rotor wheels.

BUT, I have my 21's with brand new Pzeros in my store room... Pirellis are notorious for dry rotting, so I may as well burn them up and try the Atturo's I also have in my basement which are a tad wider... Or I will just sell my 21's and get some new wheels...

    First world problems. HAHAHA

With a coilover install on a Q5 with 70k miles, is it recommended to replace the rubber strut mounts, while you're in there? My Q5 is torn down right now, and my mechanic wants to replace those mounts, not due to wear, but "best practice". The unfortunate part is that he didn't let me know ahead of time that he would want to replace those, and now it looks like the install is going to push into a 2nd day. Of all my research of suspension components/upgrades I haven't seen or heard anyone mention the need to replace those..

Also my brand new KW SC coilovers were missing a set screw, and Ill need to get a replacement from KW.

^ ^ Kind of late to the game - curious if you chose to replace the mounts?

Not to Monday morning QB this, but I certainly would have. Four years in, you've got everything out of the way...it'll never get easier or cheaper. Kinda' like replacing the water pump on your '96 Civic while you're doing the timing belt. It may not "need" it, but carpe diem and such.

Sorry to hear about the lack of QA on KW's behalf. I hope the follow up with them wasn't too painful.

Yep, went ahead and replaced the strut mounts. For $60, it's a no brainer.. I was mainly disappointed that the install ran into a 2nd day, so I had to find a ride home from work, and back again the next morning.. I live 25 miles from my mechanic, so I wasn't thrilled.

Luckily I purchased the coils from MOPS.. Him and his team at Supreme Power took great care of me. They worked with KW and they overnighted the set screw to my mechanic's shop. Glad they did that, as we didn't notice the missing screw until half way into the install yesterday. It arrived this morning, and it's ready to pick up when I get off work. Apparently this is not the first time Supreme has heard of the set screws being missing from a set of coilovers from KW. They should think of a better way to package those more securely, or provide 1 extra just in case. The $.99 wouldn't kill their margin I'm sure.

That MOPS fella'.... :) Sorry to hear about the two-day adventure, but I suspect by now you are ecstatic with the look...and hopefully the driving experience. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
