I have a Hepu, but now I think I should have gone OEM. Sure my last OEM had a cracked impeller, but I would rather have that than what I am reading here. Geez!

This is getting me scared. Wish we had manufacturing dates, so we can get a vauge idea of when quality control started to spiral downwards.

Not sure how many miles are on me current one, but this is def a bit scary. Might order new wp and tensioner soon, because summer and hard driving is just about here.

Quite a few performance tuning shops here in the UK won't sell the metal impeller for this and other reasons. I was chasing a MI pump for weeks and kept getting turned away.

In the past when we have used them they have always leaked. "

Do it. Wish I would have when I first replied to this thread back at post #9.

I can see evidence of valve smackage on all four pistons...

It's ridiculous to me that such a critical component can be built such shifty standards. I've bought countless Duralast POS water pumps from AutoZone for non TB cars and they all lasted longer than this Geba.

I bought the ECS kit as a newbie to the joys of Audi wrenching. If any other newbies are listening, I have some advice; if the part can't be changed in less than an hour, or if the part could potentially grenade your motor, only by genuine Audi parts.

Score!!! Just scooped up a brand new in box (Audi stamp for confirmation, with plastic impeller) factory unit for $64 shipped . E revision, but found nothing on the internet pointing to any reason behind the revision (probably a corporate profit ploy).

    Sorry for your bad luck....

From now on I will never use anything but an OEM water pump. I dodged a bullet twice with Geba pumps. the last one came out after 50k miles and it sounded like a rock tumbler. A few more miles and it probably would have grenaded.

If they don't (or any other company doesn't) just boycott further purchases and make it known on all forums how they handled the situation.
I think this is an overreaction to the situation.

I learned all about buying these kits when the TB tensioner failed on mine. Less than 20K on that Uro brand POS. Belt jumped two teeth by the time I had babied it home, but no damage. After that, I buy only OEM for mission critical parts. There is a reason these kits are reasonably priced. Lower quality parts cost less...

Fun Fact: Factory unit has Germany engraved on the gear, but box says Made in Mexico.

I was actually planning on doing mine today, but ended up with other things I had to do. I think I'm going to walk out to the garage and see what brand of pump came with the Gates racing kit I got.
