    Mr. Corey's S4 Build Thread.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey AZers,

Been a long time since I've put up any threads so I'd thought start a build thread. I've had my B6 S4 since 2008, picked it up lightly used with 30k on the clock. Little late for build thread I now lol.... Its Nogaro Blue with matching Nogaro interior. I searched far and wide for over a year back in the day to find a clean example of a noggy on noggy with six speed. Basically been a weekend garage queen and only gets out for shows and gtg's. I started modding it as soon as I got it so 1st thing on the list was exhaust. Next was suspension and never stopped since. Its been a long process and 5 exhaust setups later I'm happy with the progress! Updated mod list below...... hit me up if you have any questions.

Few iPhone Dyno videos from this past weekends AZ's GTG. Had a great turnout four S4's one S5 four A4's. It wasn't the best day to run with temps above 90 and humidity above 50%
I wish we had another b6/b7 v8 S4 to compare numbers with.... but overall I'm really happy with how she ran.

    We had a B5 stage 2 that put down 298WHP 358WTQ ,
    S5 with catback ran 280WHP 279WTQ
    B5 Stage 3 E85 465whp!!!!!!!!
All 3 of my runs where really consistent best was in 3rd gear 312WHP 308WTQ
two 4th gear pulls were 310 and 311whp can't wait to see what the car feels like with lighter wheels, rotors, headers and updated 2.5 inch catback.

Updates! Picked up my calipers this past Thursday from the powder coater. I had http://espospowdercoating.com/ do it. Pretty happy with how they came out, paint looks amazing. Only thing i was a little disappointed about was he doesn't know what a line wrench is ....? He rounded my cross over tube slightly. You would think you'd have proper tools taking breaks apart all the time if you have a powder coating business...... So i ordered two new cross overs. Going to replace them eventually. At this point another 80 bucks isn't going to break the bank on a 4k break job. Over the weekend I installed the BBK and the LW rear rotors. Was a bit more work than I anticipated having changed calipers on other cars Audi was some real work!!!!... and to bleed the system was a hot second i mean hrs.... I'm happy with how the breaks perform and i guess i noticed a slight difference in the unsprung weight factor. At any rate, S4 stops on a dime now that's for sure. Here's a crappy iphone photo.... until I can get the camera out.

Nice numbers! Sounds right in line with a healthy clean B7 RS4 Nice brake upgrade as well!

On the exhaust tips I use mothers. I think its just metal polish but could be aluminum I'll check the bottle. But it works great and the exhaust is 5 years old and tips look brand new for the most part.

Been a while since I've posted my cars been hiding away in storage over past 6 months for winter. I had a set of work wheels but my BBK was to big so still rocking the Bentleys since they don't have any clearance issues. Very excited to start turning wrenches this season so I ordered JHM Headers this past week!!!! I'm planning on pulling the engine redoing all my timing components. Also thinking about doing the JHM HD heads...... anyone running these? Was debating on ordering the valve train parts as opposed to buying the already put together heads. Might be a bit more work than I have time for so not sure just yet. Any feedback would be awesome!! Not sure about the advantages if I'm just full bolt on NA.

Id sure like to know how much whp could be gained from doing the built cylinder heads. Or what other mod would it compare to as far as hp gains

After its all rebuilt and done I'd like to dyno it again on that same dyno just to see what kind of gains I got from headers, LW rotors and heads. I'm sure going 2.5 catless finally will be a nice bump. Hoping 350whp but that might be high. Will probably try and take it to the strip although I've never done that before so times will probably suck haha. Maybe by then I'll have some different shoes too might help the go fast cause.

the way I see it , you won't make more power from cylinder heads alone.

I might be wrong here :
porting is untouched - no increase of flow
valves are the same size as stock - no increase of flow
valve lift is the same - no increase of flow
    cam timing is the same
higher rate valve springs - "enables" the valvetrain to turn faster , without valvefloat.

they are way tougher than the stock heads, which is a big plus

the big thing with them is that they open up alot of options later down the road , whether it is nitrous(alot more than a 75 shot) or JHM's stage 2 supercharger

Would still have stock pistons and rods.. Need to go full built engine to run a stage 2 blower, and I know Corey isn't running nitrous anytime soon.. My fault for that!

I wouldn't anticipate any power gains, but it sure would be a safe bet for replacing your stock heads!

Update! Finally made it upstate to grab my car outta of hibernation and look what was waiting for me. Thanks JHM can't wait to get these on my beast. Still deciding on what I should use for a catback ...? FI or Magnaflow ..... Does anyone have any sound clips of these version 2 headers with a non res FI catback? Haven't been able to come across any.

Dropped my ride off at Excelerate to pull the engine and refresh my timing components and valve train this week. Along with a bunch of preventive maintenance items. Still thinking about the JHM HD heads VS just redoing to seals guilds etc, have to decide asap.

Go with FI, it's honestly best sounding system especially when paired with JHM headers, not to mention all the power gains.

I just noticed color of your calipers Any more side shots where entire car visible?

Yes went catless! I dont have any photos of the entire car since I redid the breaks last fall but I'll be sure to do another photo shoot next month when I get the beast back. Had front brembos and stock rears powder coated in Lambo orange.

Hell yeah on catless and if you go with non-res catback, this beast will roar like no other! That's my personal favorite set up Yeah I was going to ask next what kind of orange is that. I'm playing with a few color schemes to implement on my car and oj is one of them. Came out quite well on yours.

As a person with a non-res FI catback mated to 2.5" dps, mind you they aren't headers, I think you should consider other custom cat back options. I might be the only person to kinda dislike the FI exhaust... I just don't think Sebring mufflers are that great and I don't think they sound good. I really want to swap out my mufflers for some Borla mufflers

Also I'm super jelly that you have headers... I want them so bad

Would like to hear side by side sound clips. I have no issues with the sound of the FI, and I believe the power gains are well documented vs other systems.

Will be interesting to hear your system next to mine.. I will be careless as well, but I have resonators..

Hopefully the Headers are worth it!!! Think its a little crazy i'm dumping close to 13k into this thing this year alone for the engine overhaul. Maybe I should go with the magnaflow then. I had one on my jeep back in the day and it held up nice through the years. Really wish my current exhaust was just 2.5 since the H pipe res with muffler delete sounds amazing.

x2 on FI Setup, dont get me wrong, im not hating on it, but since youre spending so much money on it id go custom way. ive had FI, Magnaflow and now i have neuspeed resonated, and IMO other than Corsa neuspeed is best sounding exhaust for b6. again just my personal preference, its deep and nice when you daily drive it yet, when you open it up it has that beautiful v8 sharpness.

We do build all of mufflers and cat-back systems for durability with high-quality lap-joint welds and mandrel-bent piping. We stand behind that quality with a lifetime warranty, too. We do make a cat-back for the B6 S4 (Part 16586), but if you poke around on YouTube, you'll find some great-sounding custom exhausts using some of our universal mufflers.

Is anyone running the Neuspeed 2.75 catback with headers....? Feel like thats the way to go if I'm going to add a SC next year...... Might be a little better performance than the FI or magnaflow offerings

im with 200 cell hf cats, ill be at waterfest if you wanna listen to it. imo it sounds the best from all 3 catbacks that i went thru. but if youre going SC id just get 3 inch custom and get set of Corsa or Borla mufflers... :)
