Hey Guys,

I'm shayan most people on here know me for my b6 but we recently parted ways and I picked up a b5 avant.

Lol now that I have your attention.... here's my new 'daily', its a 2001.5 Santorin Blue 5MT 1.8t Quattro Avant.

I just wanted to post a rolling thread of everything that happens with the car up here in the great white north.

I didnt import it but the previous owner did. He also did a few modifications so the car came with
- Apr Chipp
- 2.0t coil packs
- Samco tip
- ST Coilovers
- Neuspeed rswb
- rs4 'style' grille
- phatbox 20gb thing. (lol)

Here are some pictures from when I picked it up





The car was great for the first day or so but then being an Audi it started to fight back.

first issue was the headliner/sunroof drains. It seemed to rain inside the car everytime we got some weather.

I pulled the headliner and sunroof to diagnose.





Leaking rear drains. got some automotive goop and sealed up the hoses around all the but connector things.

From there I thought things would be alright for a little bit. I wanted to spin the coil-overs down and remove the tow hitch. Sure enough, things were going wrong before I could even start to do what I want. 1st fill up and the pump is clicking off every 3 seconds, Luckily I wrote a diy on how to fix this regarding the charcoal canister when I had my b6.

Anyways I put the avant to avant duty for the first time, Loaded 4 wheels and 4 tires for my subaru build.



Fits like a glove! I'm going to get used to this. SO much room for activities!

I have a question though. why sell the 3pc super rs' s? should have just thrown them on the avant. those are beautiful, wish I had 4k to sp3nd on wheels like that lol

Welcome to the B5 A4 world . Great choice on the AWM. Basically the same as your amb with slight differences (ie crank damper and fueling system).

Also finally got around to adjusting the coilovers and I had the windows tinted. and outfitted the car in LED's (interior / Plate)
They're not where I want them but they do move and this is okay with these tires for now. (maybe)





I gave it a claybar and wax but I'm still not happy with the paint condition. Also looking for s4 skirts and mouldings.

Yeah it's really not a bad colour although the car lived in NY after WA so it saw some street parking and the bumpers are in poor condition. Either wrap or paint resto must be done

LOL no not quite. It has 130,000km on it, and b5 avant was not sold in Canada so they hold their value well in these parts.

I like the B6 but it was time for me to move on the b5 is similar but still different enough to keep me interested. Avant is great and not seeing others locally is a huge bonus lol.

Unfortunatly my subaru is 5x100 and not 5x114 so that wont happen. Trying to work out a trade for a set for the avant. Would be kind of cool to have two different platforms on the same wheels.

Not sure on the rest of the goals. I'm a very sporadic person. 2 weeks ago I was saying that I was going to keep it stock as a daily. Yesterday I measured my fender to ground and its sub 23" sooo....... pretty much anything is possible, Its kind of ridiculous at this height. Someone should buy my wheels so I can make it go fast.

I know for sure that Im going to do that Valeo SMFW conversion with the clutch kit sooner or later.
also just ordered a podi gauge, I want to do that Komfortblink mod (3 turns) and maybe retrofit projectors or just maybe tsx lenses?
I also got a Zender hatch spoiler and am looking for s4 skirts/blades/bumpers.

motorwise- I've been thinking about just leaving it. but that's so lame, pretty much everything has run through my head, from a mild frankenturbo and injectors / fmic / exhaust to full frame GTX / efr / pte builds to 2.7t swaps to VR swaps etc.

sorry for the lack of updates, someone stole my Galaxy s5 while I was at the pick and pull and I lost all my pictures, I have since installed the komfort blink module and a Podi boost gauge.

Upon installing the gauge I found out I had a minor vac leak. I also found out that the APR chip was not activated....
So I figured out how to switch programs on the cruise control and finally my car feels not as slow (its still not fast)
Also replaced the PCV system with the one that 034MS makes for our cars. Did the same on my b6 and never regretted it.

picked up an s4 bumper and skirts+blades & had them paint matched.



Waiting for a package from Matt @ TRS (The retrofit source) Great guys, great customer service, would highly recommend you hit them up if you're looking for anything lighting related.

Also stay tuned for more s4 parts.
if anyone has a lead on some S4 foglights that would also be very appreciated.

Lenses are for OEM headlights I have factory xenon and am not satisfied. Check out www.theretrofitsource.com
My girlfriend actually bought the hatch for me and surprised me. She is the best.

Here you go.

found out that one drivers side is the missing tabs on the front and the rear has been poorly repaired. Worry about that later.


Popped the back off and unplugged the DS2 bulb, (Turn and then Pull)


Then I wrestled out the projectors (2nd hardest part)
3 Phillips screws
4 Clips (2 top 2 bottom) Dont worry about losing them in the headlight you'll get them later. Just make sure your workspace is clear.
Then you will be able to split the projector in the headlight, slide the reflector housing out with the flat side to the bottom, You will be able to spin it once you release the clips.
(removing ballast is optional, will make it easier but I didnt do it)
The rest just comes right out.


Here is a picture of the TSX Clear lenses from The Retrofit Source compared to the OEM Vaelo lenses


You will have to spin the retainer to free the lens. its fairly straightforward, Just be careful not to damage the lens when you're replacing it with the new TSX ones.
Eventually you will be faced with something similar to this (random projector for another project)


Foudn a spider in my headlight and decided it might be a good time to make some clear corners



Before reassembly I decided to polish the lens of each headlight with some compound and blow out the inside with compressed air cleaning any debris.


Reassembly is pretty straightforward, The lenses go in first then the cutoffs, and then the reflectors (go back in the way they came out)
Hardest part is attaching the 4 clips that hold the projector assy. together.
once you've done that you can screw in your 3 Phillips and you're good to go.








On a side note,

Picked up a slew of maintenance parts today.
- "wassenpumpen kit" with timing belt-(n)?
- rear cooalnt flange
- coolant expansion tank
- coolant temp sensor
- valve cover gasket
- cam chain tensioner gasket
- cam seals. etc
- spark plugs Bkr7e-11
- Clutch kit, (Vaelo SMFW conversion)
- Axle used OEM (replace shitty aftermarket P.O installed) DONT BUY AFTERMARKET AXLES FFS!!!
- Mounts B5 S4 mounts from my B6 (found in the garage)
- Stock trans and diff mounts (P.O Filled stockers with polly) DO NOT FILL YOUR MOUNTS WITH POLY again... FFS!!

Maintenance time. went out to my buddies place - he has a 2 post lift. Makes things easier.



pulled front clip and did the belt and pump. After that, I replaced the coolant flange at the back of the head and did valve cover/cct too.



Then for some reason I pulled my trans. out the back.... in hindsight it would have been hundreds of times easier to just pull the whole damn thing when I had the front clip off.
captain hindsight also says that would have been easier to do the rear coolant flange with the transmission out. from the bottom.




Like a sir, I opted not to remove my exhaust.





Packed-er up to leave.

lol good! gives me a chance to catch up! but yeah the TSX lenses are great and the xb 5500k are perfect, not quite blue but just a perfect white.

What was wrong with the poly filled mounts?
I did this on my UrS to the front sub frame mounts and Trans mounts. Worked awesome.

Well the previous owner filled them. I don't know what kind he used, but I know he did a poor job as they looked sub par upon removal.
He told me he did them himself. I'm almost positive he didnt seat his transmission after removing them, (run the car with AC on full with the bolts loose and then then tighten them with the car running). The NVH in the cabin was to the point where my coffee cup looked like gozilla was coming. My girlfriend enjoyed it but I just found it frustrating more than anything.
Also to top it off, I mentioned to the PO that the trans seal and diff seals were leaking and his response was "well they weren't when I didnt the mounts" dont want to jump to conclusions but that is a very strange 'coincidence' imho.

swapped back to stock ones and can't notice much of a difference in drive-ability but I certainly can notice a difference in NVH - It doesnt feel like sitting in a vibrator anymore
