wideband o2 sensor optimal mounting location?

    Hi Azine,

Two quick questions in regards to mounting a wideband o2 sensor...

    1) where is the optimal location for this on our cars? our exhausts dont merge, unless custom. I heard bank 2 runs slightly more lean than bank 1, is this true?)

    2) If my EGT's are deleted, can I install a wideband where that sensor goes? are the threads the same?

    Thanks!

    1) passenger side before cat would be the best due to less heat than in manifold.
    2) different threads
    3) best to do is to have exhaust shop to quickly weld you extra bung just before cat in an easily accessible spot, this should cost very little

This. I did a wideband install a few weeks back, and did it before the passenger primary cat.

Before removing the downpipe, mock up the placement, and mark it with a paint pen, so there are no surprises down the road.

I have mine on the passenger bank in place of my secondary o2. It is not optimal, but having secondary o2s coded out provides an open bung for easy placement. I'm running catless, but your secondary o2 bungs will be pre-main cat anyways. You want to mount the sensor in the correct orientation to avoid premature failure due to contamination/condensation on the sensor. Bosch recommends mounting the sensor at least 10* above horizontal. Google searched this - http://www.wbo2.com/lsu/lsuinstal.pdf

OP, correct, exhaust shop should know that but better safe than sorry. Have the sensor back/wires pointing slightly upwards and you will be golden. Almost horizontal "is good enough too" if in a pinch but definitely not even a degree downwards (water will then pool inside the sensor right into the sensing element)
