Tried to retrofit a frameless mirror from a B9 because the connectors are the same, thought it would be a cool upgrade. I was WRONG. Our mirrors mount with three hooks, while the B9s mount with four. So I thought, no big deal, I'll just pop out the back of the mirror, disassemble the connectors, and use my existing mount on the new mirror. Wrong again, the mounting balls are different sizes, ours is smaller than the B9's. No dice for us, unfortunately.

Also, installed H&R super sport springs over the weekend. Looks like sex .

Also, tried to retrofit a backup camera using OEM parts and a Kufatec harness. Not only is it not working, I now have a ESP fault, and Active Steering fault. I think i somehow reset the modules when I was playing with the CAN-BUS connector. Anyone ever run into this, or am I just that inept? Hours spent on VCDS to no avail. I'm thinking that a visit to the stealership is headed my way...

You have the Gen2 gearbox. They're outlasting axels in the S6 community. Your ECU tune will not be taxing to it.

Put the new grille on, and seems the weather was so good, gave the car a good wash and detail.

I don't remember when I read it but it was in a DSG thread on here. The problem is with the high hp cars launching on the (prepped) track.

Also in for answer, as I'm now tired of looking at my stock grille with the fugly plate and bracket on it. I actually like the chrome trim on this one and how it matches accent on fog grilles.

After that blizzard we had on Friday, I decided it was time to put the summer wheels back on. Hopefully the Midwest can stop getting fucking snow already lol

Missing the gold, but going for a new look this year.

I had Discount Tire install my Pilot SS 4S summer tires (255/35/19). As the tech and I were walking to the car, my summer tire excitement quickly deteriorated as soon as I noticed that they scratched the hell out of one of my wheels. After noticing this I decided to inspect the other 3 and found damage/chips and scratches on every one of the wheels, which were pristine when I brought them in.

I normally stay pretty reserved but my immediate reaction was to turn to the tech and just blurt out, "are you f***ing kidding me with this?!", while pointing at the damage. I was afraid I was going to end up with a battle on my hands but luckily the manager was immediately understanding of my frustration and assured me they'd get me 100% squared away. He assessed and documented the damage and said he'd talk to the higher-ups and call me within an hour with a solution. Sure enough, he called me about 45 minutes later and said they'd be ordering a brand new set of these VMR v710's for me in the same color. He confirmed the specs to make sure he ordered the right ones, then placed the order while I was on the phone.

So, while the situation was rather frustrating, now I'll have a winter set with my Blizaks mounted and a summer set with my Pilot SS's mounted. My initial inclination was to just get the wheels from them and have the tires re-mounted elsewhere but the manager assured me that he'd personally do the work while I was there and guaranteed absolutely no damage to occur, this time around. He also told me he's had a couple of issues with the tech who worked on my car and assured me that he would be "on his way out" shortly.

Additionally, after a nice conversation with him, I learned that he has a B8 A4. In fact, he convinced me that I should finally install the H&R OE Sport springs that I've had sitting in my basement (unopened) for over a year now.

    Anyway, a couple pics...

    Ready for summer

A sample of the damage - Chips on the spoke and on the outer lip of the rim, with a couple deep scratches. The other wheels look similar.

Wow. Sorry to hear that, and you got super lucky that the manager reacted so favorably. I'm always afraid to be "that guy" and require the manager to do a walk-around with me before service is done....but I've been through that situation enough times to realize that it's a worthwhile practice.

Thanks for the links. I would imagine that having the extra "Quattro" section on the bottom of the grille, adds some rigidity to what looks like a somewhat flexible, plain honeycomb grille?

Yeah, unfortunately this is actually the 2nd time Discount Tire has damaged wheels on one of my cars. About 3 years ago a different tech at a different location managed to ding up 2 wheels while mounting my summer tires on my old STI. That time they were way less receptive to doing the right thing. They said that since I couldn't prove the damage was caused by them then I was SOL. In the end they ended up offering to pay 50% of the costs to have the wheels re-finished. And I really had to fight for that.

This time around it wasn't a battle at all. I expected a similar response to last time but the manager was actually pretty awesome. Regardless, "fool me twice...". I'll trust the manager to personally do the mounting this time but then it will be the last time I ever give Discount Tire my business.

And I agree. From now on, no matter where I take it, prior to handing the keys to the tech I'll be doing a walk around to inspect the wheels with the manager or tech while also taking pictures for proof. I'll definitely be "that guy" but I've learned my lesson.

Was very weary of having Discount Tire mount my PSS on my HREs, but the service rep I dealt with personally took care of it (and took his time) and used floor jacks instead of their lifts. Just need to ask the manager for his best tech and tell them to take as much time as needed to get it done right.

Yep. Sucks being "that guy", but the guy working there didn't just spend $1000 on brand new wheels....you did!

Well, in this particular case, they just did.

What did you use to make a bracket for the V1 Roc Euro heat shield? Iíd love to get this done myself.
