    Help with SD card

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I am wondering what SD cards I can use in my 2009 Audi A4 it is prestige trim if that makes a difference. I would like to use the most GB possible, I greatly appreciate any help. I heard some cars can run SDHC and some can't.

What SD card do you guys recommend for the best sound quality and so forth?

Unfortunately, you can only use a regular SD card. This means NO SDHC, no micro, ONLY SD. The largest the regular SD cards get is 2gb.

You could just get a micro sd card and have the adapter
    That's what I use

microSD or the big one, it still wont read any of the high capacity cards, any cards that say SDHC on them wont work. and unfortunately the highest you can find is like 2gb in non-HC. i have a 2009 as well and have already tried a 4gb as well. and i use a microSD with the adapter

do you have the navigation? i believe those had the MMI 2.5/3G version and were able to play them. i know the 2011 and 2012's play the higher ones, but 2009 and 2010 was only the nav versions i believe. the non-MMI didnt support the HC as far as i know.

Not true...as some have already posted you can use SDHC and micro. I'm guessing they're in a facelifted vehicle. I am using two micros for the time being both at 32G.

I am fine with only 2GB and I will just a couple cards with music, doesn't seem like a hassle to change that haha.

What SD card do you guys recommend for the best sound quality and so forth?

The card doesn't affect your sound quality. It is the quality of the MP3. 320k format is great but file sizes can be large.

Codydemmel4 - the memory card and size depends on your MMI. You have not provided that info. On my previous B8 2009 I was able to use 8GB SDHC. It was 3G High MMi. The sound quality relys on the mp3 quality. If you have B&O the best you can do is download 326kbps sound quality music. With the standard sound system u are ok with 256kbps.

Guys, if you dont have Nav / MMI (you have Radio Concert or Symphony) and you dont have support for SDHC cards it means you should get a software update for your radio. The software update is totally not related to the SC card capacity its related to radio reception but that fixes the SDHC support too. I had this update on my 08 B8 (Eu) and since then I can use SDHC cards with no problem.

What kind of SD are you using. I tried a 64gb class 10 card and it wouldnt read it, so I have 2 32GB class 10 cards.

You dont, you have to go to the dealership for the update. No other way around unfortunately.

The software update SVM is B856A001. Giving this number to the dealer should theoretically clear things up.

Mine is MY2009. The user manual says the card reader supports only SD cards up to 4Gb, and so it was before I got the radio software upgraded from 0210 to 0310. After the SW upgrade the radio supports also SDHC cards. I have tried 32Gb and 16Gb cards and they work fine now.

But, the manual says also that there are limitations such as: Max. 512 files in a folder / Max. 255 folders / Max. 2048 files and folders in total in the media. These limitations are features of FAT/FAT32 file system. Or, is there an update available on this with the newer cars (with SDHC support from the factory) or is the file system different with SDHC cards? I mean, when I have now upgraded the radio to support SDHC cards, are the limitations mentioned above different now?

When I downloaded music into the SDHC card, I realized that the 2048 limit (files and folders) was reached when about 16Gb out of 32Gb card had been used, so half of the card could not be utilized. Of course this depends on the file sizes etc. So I put the 32Gb card in my videocamera and used 16Gb card in the car in order not to "waste" space in the card.
