B8/8.5 S4 Random Questions Thread

Figured the B8 S4 section needed one of these threads. The B7 section has one of these which is where i got the idea. The concept works great and is very helpful for those wanting to ask random questions or have concerns that they may come across, without having to start new threads every day.



So for my first question, does anyone know the function of the "heat sink" thing behind the battery in the trunk? I've seen a few builds where it's removed completely for more room and wondered if it's necessary to have.

By "heat sink thing" -- you mean the control module that has a electrical harness plugged into it?.

In my S5, it's 8K0907163B - AWD control module - I wouldn't recommend taking it out.

the reason why i ask is because i'm trying to find a place under the floor to put my 3 gallon tank for my new setup, and i've seen somewhere that a 3 gal was place directly where this control module currently is.

yes i believe so. at least i can in my B8.5 i think. Ill have to try it again. Yea the sales guy said the sub was under the tire i was sure lol. I knew it wouldn't be there.

How do you set different fan speeds? I know that you can set different temps.

I figured it would be similar to how you adjust temps separately but I can't figure it out.

Kind of related to random questions lol

Anyone have advice for a real small door ding? Noticed it when I cleaned the car yesterday, no pics, but I can grab some if it would help. About half the size of a dime, you can only notice it when looking at light reflection.

Are these kind of things useful?

i'll play. on my B7, I could hold "auto" on the thermostat to make the temp on the passenger side the same as the driver's side. tried to do it in my B8 with no luck. am I missing something? it was a nice feature to have when your GF wants her side 10 degrees warmer...

does anyone know how long the first trial of Tmobile 3G lasts? I don't tether at all just use it for live updates on traffic and closures. i'm waiting for it to end so i can grab a SIM from walmart or somewhere cheap

It was was 6 Mo when I got my '13 S5 2 years ago. But traffic is through the Sat Radio connection - it's for 4 years - I don't have T-mobile any more (only use a data connection occasionally) and I still have traffic.

It's somewhere in the 3-6 month time frame. The traffic and closure updates are via sirius traffic (which is a 4 year included free subscription). You can run a sim from trusim (there's another choice but I forget it) if all you care about is sending the car destinations via phone/computer or doing google voice searches. If you need the wifi-hotspot or google earth, then I'd suggest something else.

How do you lock the doors from the outside if you have the car started? I went to warm up the car in the morning, the key was in pocket and tired to lock the door from the handle and it didn't work, then tried the remote and that didn't work either. Any ideas?

You have to pull the metal key out of the fob and turn it in the lock like a peasant.

lol thanks for the bump. i tried long, long ago but failed miserably. no one here seems to mind the 1000s of threads on the same topics, same goes for the mods who apparently don't even do their jobs moderating this section.

if you have keyless entry you still need to pull the metal key out of the fob, and manually lock the doors from the outside. when the car is on you can't use the fob to control anything

You don't see colors on the interstate for traffic? There is an option somewhere in the nav settings to enable/disable it. Presuming that you've done that, I'd give a call to Sirius xm or your Audi SA to track down the issue.

No i do not. I only see the colors when sirius xm has a free trial out during certain times of the year... Are you sure you're not just subscribed to xm?

Is there a way to increase the intensity of the heated seats? I would like for them to be a little more toasty. From what I remember, my B5 A4 seats used to get much more hotter.
And oh man how I wish the steering wheel was heated as well

Not when you've got on a heavy winter jacket. I don't think its get cold enough in LA for you to understand what it feels like when its below 20 degrees.
