After sitting in the basement for three months, finally completed this mod over the weekend. Big thanks to @Avantagg for sourcing the Euro-spec lights and @A4 Centaur for lending me his vag-com for the coding.

A couple tips - I was able to snake the wire without removing any panels entirely, just reached my hand up the side pillar by accessing through either side compartment, and then snaking the wire down by the hinge. For the hatch panel - just loosened the bottom half and was able to fish wire behind the two clips holding the side of the panel, and then up to the inside taillight.

I did build my own harnesses. $50 for the four connectors needed, $15 for wiring and butt crimps, $10 for the 5th wire for outside tails and $8 for terminal connector pins. I only bought one of the 5th wires as it had terminals on both ends, just cut it and used one for each outer tail. So ~$80 once all said and done. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics.

Every time I want to buy the EU FL tail lights for my avant I talk myself out of it and buy other parts cause they make more sense at the time. It looks so great on our cars might have to budget this for next year.

I was finally able to get these popped into the car, I wish I could say I did it myself but the folks over at RedRiverMotorwerkz were willing to tackle it! My favorite update so far. Haha right! Well North Dakota has one sole Audi Dealer in Fargo so you really don't see many on the road however i'm still blown away it was available. Most of the typical ones were taken like OOOO, AWDI but some of the other choices were WAGOON, AVANT.

Anyone looking to do the taillight update, I promise you, it will be one of the best things you have done to your car. Again HUGE HUGE thank you to @avantagg for all the help!

hey has anyone done a b8.5 sedan halogen to LED conversion? I have LED lamps and the stock LED harness but i'm unsure of the procedure. The only apparent difference is that the reverse light is on the outside lamp instead of inside.

I have all the wiring planned out just would need someone to verify the proper coding.

Man I feel dumb - they offered halogen housings with the facelifts? Every 8.5 I see has the same style taillights, sedan and Allroad.

@Gunnark100 might be able to chime in, guy has some good knowledge in that area.

I'm going to dig this thread back I'm installing LED tails in my 2012 Audi a4 Avant and I'm doing my best to follow along but my car only has 4 wires going to the rear lights each only have 4 going to it.
I have a few questions, is this known and the lights get rewired exactly as specified?
My Tail lights dont follow the same 12345 pin layout mine are 1234 with no fifth cable where does the 5th cable come from aka added from on the pin out from the 46 module.
Also coding, but I'm more worried about where the extra wire comes from and how to rewire that? is it directly from the 46 module that my missing wire is from?
If you need more info let me know I'm looking to complete this, this weekend.

Updated: To reduce confusion.

I checked this side using a 12v battery and working out what each connector linked up to bulb wise.
Left Main
1 Grey / Black - Brake / Turn
2 Black - Reverse
3 Green - Sidelight
4 Brown - Ground

Left Inner
1 Blue / Black - Rear Fog
2 Brown - Ground
3 Gray - Sidelight
4 Yellow / Grey - Sidelight
(Both sidelights are independent bulbs left and right bulbs).

I have not checked exactly what the right side does because I assumed it was the same as the other side but I am unsure now.
Right Inner
1 White / Grey
2 Brown
3 Grey
4 Blue / Grey

Right Main
1 Brown
2 Yellow / Brown
3 White / Black
4 Green / Black

I’m guessing you figured out the wiring? If I remember correctly (and it’s been almost 2 years now), there’s only one value to change in each entry. I believe your telling the car it’s LED versus Halogen. So for the first entry - 195 14848 - it would be 14849, so on so forth.

So had a look at the wiring out of module 46 and am working on figuring out which one I need to tap into in order to sort the wiring out.
I'm wondering if the wire taps into the brake line so that it can do both brake and turn or if it's a seperate pin that needs to be added into the module anyone know?

No need to add any pins(wires) to the module 46, you just need to make bridges between light functions, to get extra ones working, as you had 4pins now 5, means 4 more channels is needed. Just follow wiring in post1 if you retrofitting EU not US lights.

I'm retrofitting EU lights on a US model thus I only have 4 pins per light and in the main post he has 5 pins per light so I'm just trying to find out where the extra 4 are going to come from?

Missing is going to be turn signals on both sides and the brake on the middle (inner lights) that's my 4 extra channels I need to work out where those come from.
Since the brake and turn are combined I'm guessing I need to split a pair of wires joined outside the module? Had a look but the bundle is quite complex to say the least.

I get that the inner brake and turn will be in a (y'd / joined / connected / paired) with the outter lights, but since my brake and turn is the same bulb (US spec) where do I break the two of those from being paired as I don't want the new brake and turn signals connected.

Hard for me to not overthink it. I like to know exactly what I'm doing before I do something just how OCD works I suppose.
Also I'll try these and revert to the old coding and throw the old lights on if I have issues.
Seeing the coding I don't have turns on the left and right inner lights only ambers on the outter so would I leave those alone?

Alright So new lights are in and they are awesome.
Issues
No errors when turning the car on with the light switch in off position
Pressing brake "right brake light" / "left brake light" MIL on
switch to auto "left rear light" and "right rear light" MIL on
when turning the left and right signals on they blink for 3 cycles turn off and the MIL on, but they work however they seem to lightly pulse for those 3 cycles then no longer will turn on until igniton is cycled.
When turning on side lights they work, but "right rear light" / "left rear light" MIL on
Turning on fog lights "right fog light" MIL on the light works left fog light does not turn on nor does any code appear.

Non issues:
Reverse lights work as they should

Update:
Changed some coding by one value and if anything made things worse the brake now says, "left / brake / turn / signal" and "right / brake / turn / signal" or something along those lines.
Sadly I dont know enough about the coding so don't want to do more harm than good. Any help will be appreciated greatly.

Too late for that stayed up till about 3am working out the kinks and taking little things from each thread I could see compiled a list and made changes.
Best one I say that help[ed was 203 to 73 which worked and the left fog is now active. Also detection turned off to get rid of those pesky dash notification which also inherently solved the turn signal issue they now work normally the only thing left is sorting out the turn signal inside on the cluster blinks at double speed which is in another thread in which the issue was never solved at least not from what I read. As of right now all the lights function as they should and no errors on dash because 181 is bulb detection and I turned that off for the time being until I can figure out the correct coding needed.

As far as aborting I'm not a fan someone somewhere will have the issue resolution for this and I wont turn back now with everything running.

Completed the Mod all lights working thanks to Ross Tech forums. All lights are working as they should the only issue I have is that the cluster turn light blinks twice as fast the only fix anyone knows of is with the Audi VCP or ob11 which I won't worry about. Thanks for all the help from everyone and anyone looking to do this know it is totally worth it!

Why do yours light up like that? My LED tails do not light up that way at all. The areas illuminated in your photo are the what light up when you step on the brakes. The pictures I included show how they light up without the brakes being stepped on.

Hi! I just installed this on my 2010 Allroad with the oem led lamps but i have one "problem" after upgrading to the facelift. Everything works fine and i have no error codes after using the kufatec wiring and coding, but i have no reverse lights on the car..
On my oem lights the reverse light is integrated in the bulb socket/holder but in my new lights there are nothing, i have one hole on each outer lamp that are for a w16w bulb, but i do not have any calbes or socket for that.

Have you had any similar issues? I guess there are no problem to wire up trough the lamp connectors but i have to find a socket that will fit the lamp, does anyone have any ideas?

Yes, this hole on both outerlamps. I miss holder and the wiring to that as the reverselights on my oem lights was
different to this. I have ordered some holders off ebay noe but if those will fit i dont know 😅 what pins do i have to connect to?

If you used kufatec wiring kit, your pins should be connected already! FL avant rev light is outer pins 4

Yes, everything from the kufatec adapter and oem connectors is connected but i have no reverse light, and no w16w bulb/socket. So i dont quite know how to get that sorted out and what i need that will fit.
