    Engine surging

So my 2008 A4 2.0 quatro surges as I drive it, especially on low throttle. Around 20-40 miles per hr. The RPMs go up and down and I feel the car surging too. If I step on it, it doesnt do it. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

If it’s when the engine isn’t fully warmed up, or on a short drive, I would think it’s the torque converter on the trans. Common. Are you tiptronic?

Yea usually when its first started. Its the automatic 6 speed with sports shift... not sure which one that is.
So its normal? Or is something going to break? :)

Yeah that’s tiptronic (automatic) Sadly normal. Mines been doing it for years. Nothings going to break that I’ve heard of. Besides, new TCs are ungodly expensive

what about changing the lifetime transmission fluid and filter? A guy that did it seemed to notice improvement, I think he posted on here. The fluid was black in color when it was drained... yuck

Yes, trans service did greatly help mine. Its not 100%, but id say 80% better. I did a filter/fluid change with ZF parts/fluid, takes about 5 liters. Also did a second drain and fill, which took about 3 liters. Also supposed to do a reset/adaptation drive afterwards, which I haven't done yet.

I had it done on mine. It didn't help much or at all but I was going to get that service done in either case.

My avant had the torque converter slipping (surging) all the time, hot (after driving for hours) or cold. After I changed the filter and fluid (with the correct fluid!) the surging has completely stopped and the shifting has greatly improved. YMMV

    Under your valve cover

You should definitely try changing out the transmission fluid its to thin and dirty now after years of use. I've had this issue with many automatic cars and 9 out of 10 times to repair or make it better all I had to do with a quick drain and fill to the transmission fluid and never had any issues before. Typically the fluid will xome out black Grey and very thin try using oem fluid to replace what comes out.

I have the same problem. I changed the fluid and filter without sucess.
Was there an "adaptation" that can be done?
