Angry Help - Dent onthe roof side, right above front door

the stupidest shit just happened to my car, so im parked in my driveway and from the 1st floor a f*cking AC just got loose out the window and was hanging off the wire, but came down low enough to hit my car, right above the front right side passenger door, on the panel that runs down the side, and not the roof itself, but basically it made a decent sized dent there that runs about 6-7" above the door.
    so pissed right now

now if im not wrong this panel itself runs down the side of the car into the rear quarter panel right? so it's one big piece?

i'll post pics of the actual dent tomorrow in the day, but here's basically where it dented, the line in red is where the dent is, not on the roof itself and not on the door itself though, but just that panel that runs along the side of the roof.

and i did have plastidip on it so i dont think there's paint damage underneath, but around how much am i looking at to get the dent popped out again, if it's possible. do they have to take off that whole panel and dent it out from the inside or can it be accessed through the headliner or something? just wondering what to expect when i get this fixed, and wondering if i should go through insurance and use comprehensive coverage, just hoping its not too much to raise my rates or something :/

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Depends on whether there is access for the PDR guy to get behind the dent to push it back out. Yes, likely would have to go in from behind the headliner i imagine. (Although I have seen glue pullers on-line - maybe that could be an option). I believe this is part of the roof since the sail panel you are talking about is integrated with the roof. I'd go for paint-less dent removal if you can. Seems that would be an extensive touch up. No problem blending the color out from the area but not sure where your body shop would have to end up respraying the clear. Likely would have to re-clear your entire roof and both quarter panels.

If you do have to go through your insurance, it should not effect your rates since it would be considered a comprehensive claim or possibly on the Owner of the building's insurance who owned the AC unit if you rent if he is deemed negligent.

Let us know how it works out.

yea i forgot it is part of the roof itself as well, just that "ridge" is there but still 1 piece. i guess i'll have to check paintless dent removal if its not possible to push it out from under.

and im not too worried about the paint under as i'll just plastidip over it for now anyway.

Sorry to read about the mishap.

Although it is difficult to tell from the picture, the damage does not appear to be too bad and it certainly could be a lot worse; just image if it landed on your windshield. Hopefully, PDR will get the job done.

Good luck with the repairs, and let us know when you decide upon the proper fix.

Ouch man, that's a tough one. That could actually be a renters insurance claim, maybe? I'm not sure, I've never had to use mine. But it wasn't anything reckless on your part so if it goes through car insurance I don't think that your rates would go up, and that doesn't look cheap to fix. Also, that picture of your car is awesome. Love the Plasti dip look.

I was also wondering the same thing due to my car having a smaller dent than that, over my passenger rear door. It's not too noticeable to see unless you really know it's there, but it bothers me everytime I see it. Sorry for stealing the show, I'm just a curious man myself!

I recently got a PDR quote for a dent in a different location but it was close to an edge. The PDR guy said it has to be at least a quarter inch from the edge to work on it. Just an FYI

Also it was like $100 bucks (I didn't try it yet though)

thanks guys. here's a pic of the damage, the plasti dip was there so my original paint isnt scraped or anything, thats just scrapes from the dip, but i got a quote from one place so far that quoted me $300 for that (if PDR works on it, otherwise $450 for bodywork), so i'll have to check around and see what i can find. that side part thats in grey is pretty much the only part with the dent, got lucky that the roof itself wasnt damaged and the door/chrome trim are fine as well.

just my luck, and i was ready to re-paint my car again this week to that matte red

Wow.... So you saying your A/C falled down on your car? Better on car than on your head I quess... This suck big time. Good that you had plastidip to protect the paint.

yup, just my luck lol. AC is pretty much right there on the 1st floor window to the left of the car, 1st floor tenants were in there and was fiddling with the window and the AC just fell straight out, and fell just low enough to hit and crease that part. and yeah the paint underneath should be fine, hopefully it's not too hard of a crease for paintless dent repair, getting a few quotes around the area, just hoping i dont end up needing body work.

im wondering if i just repaint the dip on there if it will even be noticable, at least its not on the body panels or somewhere that obvious so im lucky for that, but i just hate to have any marks or blemishes at all anywhere :/ gonna check with my insurance for paintless too, i read sometimes they just cover it without the deductable so they dont have to end up paying more for bodywork.

lol if they were just other tenants i would but they're close and somewhat extended family, so i dont wanna be that guy. he did offer to pay for it thought so its not a prob, but either way i gotta get this fixed first and see how much it is. im hoping its just a simple fix, its not really too noticeable until you get up close, just looks worse there as the paint is scratched up there, but not like a sharp crease or anything. if a simple paintless fix wont work im probably gonna just suck it up and leave it for now and it wont really be too noticeable once i repaint it, but will do body work down the road if needed i guess. thanks for the help guys, gonna submit to my insurance and see what they say as well.

Had something similar happen to me although it was a shelf in my garage and it fell on my door, yours doesn't look to bad. I'm not sure which PDR you have but there is one that does small welds with little keys very close together and it works wonders on these types of dents provided there is no crease in the dent.

yea its really not too bad and its a smooth dent, no creasing, the scratched paint just makes it look worse. ill end up taking it to someone to check in person.

so if i were to go through insurance, is this not covered just under an accident? if i accidentally dropped something on it (like the shelf in the garage), that won't be covered? if not i guess i could just say i left it parked outside and someone did something? lol

I think it would probably fall into the same general bucket as vandalism and accidental damage. Be honest with them and I'm sure they'll help out. I agree that redoing the Plasti dip would make it almost invisible, though, if they won't cover it and you don't feel like dropping the cash to fix it.

lol its a sedan though not avant, but i don't think i'd like, or even ever use, a roof rack anyway.

but yeah its sucks, oh well not as pissed as i was yesterday, just gonna paint the car sometime this week and see how well it hides it, hopefully good. but yeah ill prob end up going thru insurance for a small claim worse case so its not all too bad, just glad my car was in that exact spot, so no glass damage and that it didnt hit the front side of the pillar or side mirror, or worse any part of the door or front fender/hood, that would've sucked big time.

^ Very true. I can't imagine the sunroof would be cheap and easy to replace either.
