    P0036 and O2 sensor

My CEL is on and I have to get my emissions inspection asap. I took it in for the emissions inspection anyway. I'm throwing a P0036, and the place said that they are getting no data from the O2 sensor, as if the ECU had been cleared of codes too recently, but I know that's not the case. Yes, I had it reset, but it's been hundreds of miles. And when the guy read the code before he reset it, he said something similar, like the unit was telling him that it wasn't getting data.

So does this mean that I need to replace my O2 sensor(s)? If not, then what?

If so, I haven't been able to find anything about how to replace them. Is this easy or hard for my B7 2.0T? Anyone have a DIY or can at least show or tell me where the sensors are?

I'm really not looking to spend $180/hr for the dealership to look at it. They wanted $350 to replace coil packs and another $350 to replace the cam adjustment sensor (5 minutes for someone who had never done it before). So I can only imagine what they would want to replace an O2 sensor, even if it's super simple.

    Thanks!

So you know a cam position sensor takes 5 mins to change but don't know how to change out an O2 sensor?

22mm wrench. Lefty loosey. Reverse process. Beer me!

Use some PB Blast to make your life easier. The out O2 sensors are NOT cheap. $120-180 depending on sensor and source.

Ok, so finding the O2 sensors was easy. What's not so easy is figuring out which ones to buy. They range from $72 to almost $200, and I'm getting different search results from most of the sites. Hell, EuropaParts is giving me more than 2 dozen Bosch choices alone. It seems that the Bosch 17480 (downstream) and 16986 (upstream) might be the right ones. Rock Auto has them for $72 and $94. EuropaParts has the same ones for $130 and $170.

I got the new O2 sensors and installed the front sensor (pre cat). But I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to get the rear sensor off. I borrowed the socket from the local parts store, but because the sensor is basically facing backwards and there doesn't seem to be a way to get to it from underneath, I'm looking for ideas of how to get it off then get the new one tightened. FYI, the front one came off very easily with no PB Blast or anything else. Help?

Final update in case anyone searches this in the future....

I borrowed the 22mm O2 socket kit from Advance Auto. As mentioned, the 1st one came off easy using the kit. The post-cat sensor was a PITA. I broke a u-joint on my socket wrench trying to get it off. So I took it to a shop and paid them $50 to loosen it then just hand-tighten it. It took them almost an hour. Anyway, that post-cat sensor was definitely the problem. You could see it was scorched. The front one looked fine when I replaced it. I knew it had to be the rear one because the emissions test wasn't getting an O2 reading or a catalyst reading. So if you are replacing your O2 sensors, you may not be able to get the old ones off, even with the right tool. I might possibly have been able to get it off if I had an impact wrench and impact socket extensions and U-joints, but I don't.
