Renn Motorsport RS-51 Flow Formed 19 Wheels Review

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just got the the Renn Motorsport RS 51 flow formed wheels in 19 X 8.5 offset 35mm installed. I bought the 8.5 cause I didn't want to buy new tires right now. I was close to buying a AG wheel, but while they look nice, I wanted a lighter wheel.

Sonic Tuning gave me a great price. Ray was super easy to work with. Unreal they can sell flow formed wheels in this size for this low price.

I had the stock 19 in rotor wheel and they weighed in at 28.5 lbs(see pics).

The wheels came professionally packaged ...they weighed in at 21.0 lbs!. Prob between 20.5 and 21.0 lbs, as scale did flip back and forth few times but they are close to 21 lbs. The silver color was nice. I did see a few pit marks and few very tiny nicks but no big deal. I have previously bought much more expensive wheels that had more flaws than these wheels.

Got them installed today and all I can say is wow. Now I am not one to exaggerate but there is a night and difference in the way the car feels now. It literally feels like I have another 30-50 hp. Almost feel like I got a free tune. ...:).
Car feels so much lighter/quicker off the line. The steering feel is abit looser now and this is noticeable at low speeds. The handling is improved also...turn in is a lot faster and more responsive now....doesnt want to nose dive into corners now....feels a lot more like a M3 now.

You cannot under estimate the difference unpsprung weight makes on a car. I lost 7.5 lbs at each corner but car feels like it weighs 200-300 lbs less now. I can only imagine how the car will feel when I get Michelin PSS's on the car when my heavy OEM Dunlops wear out.

Last but not least, the aesthetics of the car/wheel look much improved also but this is personal taste I suppose.

All in all, I am very happy about this purchase...by far the biggest improvement is how light the car feels now...just feels like I have a lot more HP than I actually do....car feels a lot faster and handling is improved also...I would say the looks of the wheel(which is good) is the least important factor for me when buying these wheels(I say that now after driving the car).

First few pics show old rotors and weight of rotor wheels.

I have them on my 2014 S4 and it is black also!! And I agree 100% with everything you said about the weight!! And I bought the PSS's at the same time and the difference is unreal!! The car definitely is faster with the weight loss at all 4 corners!! The wheels balanced with very little stick on weights (which is great!!). I would highly recommend these wheels (if you like the style) to anyone looking to upgrade their wheels and at the same time increase their performance!! The car feels completely different....for the better!! And you can't beat the price!! I would have thought these would have been twice the price I paid! I have hit a few bad spots in the road with them and not a problem! I highly recommend the PSS's as well! The combo is fantastic. And I agree, Ray was a pleasure to deal with! The packaging was top notch and shipping was very fast! Make sure and do the Michelin PSS's!! It will just increase the feel you already have!! They hook up so much better than the Conti's!!

Thanks Ray!!! I am loving the Renn's!!!

Is your S4 lowered? If so how much? Via springs or coilovers?

    Thx guys.

I am lowered on HR OE's so 1.2 inches.

These flow formed wheel are lighter than most forged wheels of comparable size.

350.00 per wheel shipped is an amazing deal.

One negative about having light wheels, my OE springs seem abit more bouncy now...not sure if I am imagining this but seems like it.

I'm not sure how the wheels would have anything to do with the bounce...

i would think it would be slightly less bounce-y since unsprung weight is less and damping action is more effective.

$350/wheel deefinitely sounds like a good deal to me. Are there any concerns with durability (not curbs - actually tearing wheels apart) with the lighter wheels? Do you know if there is an actually rating system for wheel strength? Isn't the factory offset 40 something? Will the different offset make a change in tire wear? thx

Flow formed wheels should very very strong...imho, you get the best of both worlds...the price of cast but the weight and strength of forged.

I would say the ride does feels abit stiffer with these wheels...maybe counter-intuitive, but ride seems bouncier too...I need to check the air pressures though cause I like to run at 37 at all 4 corners and Im pretty sure they went 36/40 according to Audi specs...this may make some difference.

But like I said, by far the biggest benefit is how light the car feels now and acceleration difference...followed by handling and then looks....for 1396.00 delivered you can't go wrong imho...personally, not sure why anyone would go AG when this option available but maybe I am missing something.

Lastly, I have had Morr flow formed forged wheels on e92 M3 in the past and they were great...held up well and those were light too and that car also felt completely different when I put those on vs heavy OEM stock wheels.

Audi specs are not 36/40. They're a bit lower than that. Set to 38 on all corners and see what it feels like. Mine gets a bit sloshy at 34lbs, which is what the dealer normally sets them to make the ride better on 19's.

Less unsprung weight improves spring/shock action and reaction.

What you are feeling on acceleration and braking is the reduction in rotating mass. Like a lighter flywheel, a lighter wheel and tire combo gives your engine less work to do, giving quicker acceleration and increasing braking effectiveness.

    Enjoy!

Why did you go the 8.5 width wheel and not the 9.5? Was this to retain using your stock tires?

You can run 255 (stock tire width) on 9.5" wide wheels, but some people just don't like the stretched look. Maybe it was this and maybe the OP thought that 8.5 is plenty wide enough as it is, especially if he wasn't going to get wider tires to run properly on 9.5" wheels which would have added to the overall weight of the package.

The 9.5" only comes in ET35 which is too aggressive to be completely rub free with a 255.

We have few customers running 19x9.5 ET35 with 255/35-19 and 265/30-19 with out any rubbing issues.

The car is lowered, so it is running a bit of camber.

one additional advantage(in addition being lighter) of running 8.5's is that I tend to curb my wheels being careless, but when I have done this recently the tires take the blow and not my wheel...

I've had these for about a year now. I ran them through last summer, and they became my winters after I put my BBK on and got a new summer setup. No issues to report.

Nice. Do you know if they'll offer in 19x9.5" ET42? Would make good track wheels, and be able to run 265's....
