Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Did you guys keep or remove these when installing your coilovers. This is the piece that sits between top of spring and the metal body. Front insulator on left, rear on the right.

why did you post 3 threads asking the same ? , why would you need to use the stock spring rubber pads on coilovers . the coilover is a fully assembled unit so the answer is no on the front obviously. did your rear coilover setup come with something for the spring to the body - if no then reuse the stock one. maybe you should have someone install these for you

I posted three times because all the cars are similiar but a wider demographic dealing with various brands and installations will lead to more responses with various setups.

    Their already installed.

    I was curious.

    Thanks.

And like I said, I have already received two different responses from you and another user in the A4 section.

Which is why I posted three times.

From a performance stand point, I feel like leaving them out would allow the suspension to do its job faster. My curiosity is more about what is recommended as the "proper" way to do it.

When you do the install, it will be obvious that the old rubber spring seats will not fit with the coilovers. They will not mate up properly to the the coilover kit.

Here is the rear aduster on the KW & Bilstein coilovers compared. They both seat with a large washer directly on the metal on the S4. The KW is purple (Nylon washer?) and the longer
Bilstein adjuster is black (Rubber washer?).

Ok that makes sense, I believe I installed them correctly then. It didn't look they would fit.

Here is a another thread on the coilover install, with lots of pictures.

The rear spring lower rubber isolator gets reused on the rear, that is all. The heavy upper spring plate is not reused.

There is a rubber donut isolator above the Front strut mount (not the spring) which gets reused.

side question regarding these mounts. (KWv1) Are they supposed to be bolted or do they just sit there between the chassis and spring. so for example if you decompress the spring, the mount would just pop out without unbolting? the reason i ask is because i went to adjust my rear springs and noticed some play in the mount, i can move it around side to side or spin it. is that normal?

And that's why you should read the instructions that came for the install or call the company to find out specifically if not mentioned in the install guide.

Both the KW & Bilstein instructions could use some improvement. They are both pretty limited. Most of the paper is due to all the languages that are printed.

Yea, the instructions with my KW's is horrible. For being so expensive you would think they'd spend more time on it.

The adjusters just sit there between the chassis & spring. With the protrusions on the end, they are captured. Mine are set at max height of only 0.625" below stock height with the 30mm KW spacer, so they are a very tight fit.

That's what I thought. Its just very odd to me that they can move around. I know the the car back on the ground will add weight to prevent them from moving which I hope it does. I always feel like my back end is heavy and sliding around.
