    2012 Q5 3.2 w/B&O - Bluetooth streaming and Windows Phone 8

Just got a used 2012 Q5 from Royal Auto in SF. Of course...no user manual so far. So basically I don't know how to use my car.

I have connected my phone via bluetooth and what do I get....phone features only. That means I can get calls and talk to people but nothing about audio streaming.

I want to be able to stream Pandora on my phone and have it play on my car...just like every rental car I've had over the last 2 years. I also listen to a lot of audiobooks (or did before I bought this car) and I want to be able to playback Audible files on my phone and obviously over my car speakers. So far I can do all sorts of phone related things that don't include media streaming or playback. The SD card isn't an option since that doesn't stream or play audible file types.

For whatever reason, Audi opted not to install a USB port. You know...a UNIVERSAL connector that everything would work with. Instead is some doo dad in the glove box that doesn't connect to my current device, and I don't even know if I buy the correct connector I'll be able to play Audible files.

    So...

    1. Am I simply doing it wrong regarding the bluetooth and there is a fix?

    2. If I buy the stupid connector will I be able to use every feature I care about?

    3. Why no standard 3.5mm input or why not USB connector? I have had weird issues in the past where you can't play via USB because it thinks the files I bought are copyright which means I can't play via USB for some stupid reason, but at the least I could charge my phone.

Well to start out. Congrats on the Q5. I am pretty new at this also, but I think I can help clear some of this up.

It looks like you have navigation so you will not have the AUX option. You will only be able to use your phone via bluetooth and not stream music though the Audi MMI.

However, you have a couple different solutions. All of which have their own pros and conns.

    1. Purchase the extended 3.5mm adapter. http://www.amazon.com/Xtenzi-Adapter...=audi+q5+cable

(I actually have one that I do not use so if you want to go this route I will sell to you for cheap.)

    2. Purchase the ViseeO Tune2Air adapter. http://www.amazon.com/ViseeO-WMA1000...th+stream+audi

This product connects to the end of the iPod adapter that can also be bought. http://www.amazon.com/Elandpower-Ada...i+ipod+adapter

I currently use the Tune2Air solution and I have very little issues streaming from my iPhone and my gf's M8. I say very little issues because at times it has some issues on start up when choosing the same song each time the car is started and not picking up from where the ipod left off. Very minor annoyance to have the ability to bluetooth music and also play streamed podcasts and such.

I am sure there are other methods out there however this is just what I came across when looking for a bluetooth streaming solution.

I have a Win 8 phone and a 2014 SQ5, bluetooth streaming from Rdio and other apps works great, but I needed to add both the audio profile and the hands free profile in two steps.

My worry, however, is that you're on a earlier version of MMI that doesn't support audio profile for WP. Which means you want to go the Tune2Air or other BT adapter route. There was a compatability wizard at the audi site below I believe that didn't look like audio streaming works on a MY12 Q5 (I used a Nokia phone as the sample device).

You can get a lot of detail here without physical manuals:

@big residual: Thanks for the Bluetooth compatibility link. I tested my Nokia 1020 phone with the Q5 in the dealer showroom (non-MMI Symphony with B&O) and was instantly able to import my phone contacts by Bluetooth connection. I upgraded my phone software from Win 8.0 to 8.1 just before I got my Q5. Now I can't import my PDA contacts by Bluetooth in either my car or the showroom car! Otherwise, phone works well with my car, including voice commands.

Is there a known problem with syncing contacts from a Win 8.1 phone with the Audi non-MMI Symphony + B&O sound system?

You have a MMI, but without navigation. NAV is an additional option
MMI in all models, just different screen resolution, with different system linking other devices CAN bus or MOST-bus

This is probably a problem with Win 8.1

Thanks, spijun. You're right, if course. I have MMI without navigation. VCDS works just fine in CAN bus mode. How do I know if my system is CAN bus or MOST bus?

I hope Microsoft fixes Win Phone 8.1 soon. Anyone else have this problem?

Sorry to hear about the lack of manuals. IME Royal is a pretty thorough shop - hopefully they're taking care of that for you. There are LOTS of threads on this topic, though. Echoing the comments from ABOMB above...

I believe streaming over BT only became a feature with the 3G MMI hardware, introduced here in MY2013. My '12 didn't have it. However, assuming you have the AMI interface (glove box), the 3.5mm AMI cable (p/n 4F0051510C....although there are aftermarket cheapies out there) solves your 'aux' woes. There's a USB AMI cable too - 4F0051510G. I've only used the 3.5mm jack with iPhone/iPod, but I've had no issues hearing Pandora and MLB apps. My impression is that you'll hear whatever audio feed your device pushes out, so the Windows phone shouldn't matter.

Regarding the Win8.1 issues with BT sync....same ol', same ol'. From what I hear, M$ is blaming the hw/fw/drivers, and the folks who make the hw/fw/drivers are blaming M$. This time, the intentions seem to be pure - more security, so those nudies you took of yourself won't escape. :) They don't make it easy for folks to choose their phones, that's for sure.

Hi - I just ordered this from Amazon, which I believe will enable A2DP Bluetooth audio streaming through the AMI connector.

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B52LLJ6/...528360_TE_dp_1

That way, you shouldn't have to fiddle with the physical aux connector... we'll see!

Good news!!! Cortana on WP 8.1 works great thru the Q5 Bluetooth phone interface. Just sync the phone, start Cortana on the phone, then speak thru the in-car microphone. Cortana does her thing and the results come thru the car system (e.g. calls anyone in your contacts and allows you to speak thru the car system). :-) :-) :-)
Not so important now that I can't sync my contacts from my phone.
