Lightbulb Inner Brake Light Issue 2011 A3 facelift (hatchback)

    Hi everyone!

Earlier I was using compressed air to remove dead bugs from the inner tail lights in the trunk lid so I removed the grey bulb holder assembly in the photo and blew them out. After reinstalling the assembly, the inner brake light on the passenger side would stop working intermittently. When the alert showed on the dash, I went back and fiddled with the wires and it fixed itself for a couple hours but ultimately came back. I think it seems to be a contact issue, however I really don't know what seems to be causing it. This is the post facelift 8.5p model with the angel eye taillights and those work well, its just the brake light thats off.

I was hoping to hear any advice on the matter, and I would also like to know which wire is responsible for powering the brake light. I was also wondering what the white connector with the red and black wires indicated in green were for. it was impossible to disconnect so I left it as is. (Im aware I broke the red clip in blue at the top)

    thanks everyone

Mine is doing the same on the driver side. In the summer is fine. Seems to happen more often in spring and fall. I was planning to open it and investigate this weekend.

Sounds good, let me know if you have any luck getting that white connector out. makes the job 100x easier.

Problem solved: the very bottom of the bulb was slightly corroded and it turned dark, however, the filament was still intact so it would light from time to time when it made contact. Fortunately i didnt have to mess with any of the wiring and just replacing the bulb was good enough. I found out after I swapped the position of the bulbs from right to left and the problem followed the bulb.
