    2012 S4 with 26k miles.
    ibis white black interior
    Options:
    MMI Nav.
    Napa leather
    bang olufsen audio
    Rear park sensors
    Carbon inlays
    Aftermarket:
All APR, stage 2 intake, pulley and stage 2 tune, CPS, exhaust
    p3 boost gage
    Alukreuz drive train stabilizer

Was thinking about trading in in for a new M3. Now i am looking at getting into a S6. Problem is audi would want me to return it to stock for me to trade it in.

All work was done at Anchor Audi. I also have the audi care package which would transfer with sale to the buyer

    Thank you in advance

Are you talking about trading it for a 2014/2015 S4? Because sport diff and/or transmission? Otherwise it's a lot of extra financial burden for not much in the way of upgrades.

Check NADA because that's what the dealers go off of if you are doing a trade-in. The more stock it is....The better. Private party you should make a bit more than NADA.

Thanks Jake. I dont want to go through the trouble of returning to stock so private sale would be the way for me to go. Just trying to get a feel on what people would pay for my car.

In my experience they don't use NADA either. They use wholesale values from a range of auction houses. I was looking into trading my '12 for a '13 about 5 months ago and NADA said my car was worth $39k for clean trade-in. The guy at the Audi dealership offered me $33k and would not budge so I thanked him for his time and went back to enjoying my '12.

Very true. Having worked at a luxury car dealership in sales, I can tell you most dealerships get there trade figures from buy bids (calling around other dealerships asking what they will buy the vehicle for), or live auction (such as Manheim). Plus, anything that dealerships will have to replace or fix will come out of the trade figures too. Another thing they will tell you is that they have to subtract the trade amount for a safety inspection, detailing, and any other BS reason.

All dealerships have a used car manager who is in charge of the ultimate trade number. Books such as KBB, NADA, etc. are used as a guideline for banks to price out vehicles. The most accurate I have personally used when taking in a trade is MSN Autos.

I think the last couple of posts summed it up pretty well if you plan to trade it in. Those would also give you a good idea on private party sales, but honestly it is a lot harder to say with a modified car. A lot of it depends on how many S4's are available in your area, and finding the right buyer (one that likes the mods, and can pay a large amount in cash as it is harder to finance a private party sale). To the average person, those mods would detract from the price. To the right buyer, they may well be worth $2000 more....

I don't know your market, but my car is similar, and I would hope to be able to sell it for $42k around here private party (I am not selling). Mine has 15k miles, and I am also helped out by the fact that there are only six 2012 S4's for sale within 500 miles of me. You would probably be helped out by higher demand for S4's, but there are also probably A LOT more available within a few hundred miles.

Don't rely just on the dealers. I sold my Q5 to CarSense and got $4500 more than what the local Audi dealers were willing to give me. Why? Because they only had 1 other Q5 between their 3 local CarSense dealerships and it was in demand. So if you have a CarMax or CarSense around you it's worth stopping by. The number they give you is good in writing for 7 days.

Go to another dealer and say it only has an exhaust.

They probably won't notice the other mods. They usually just drive it.

I just did a quick AutoTrader search for Audi S4 (2010-2013, under 30k miles, within 100 miles of zip 11109) and came up with 45 hits ranging from $33k to $58k.

    Shady, maybe.

But have you ever traded a car in where they do more than just a walk-around, check tires, brakes and drive the car?

I agree. Trade in value is based on Manheim auction results. Over the last month, 2012 S4 P+ on Manheim with 20-30,000 miles went for $35,000-39,000. OP's car is a car that will sell in the forum classifieds.
