I am looking to purchase an Eastwood fender roller (or I could do the wooden bat option) to open up the gap between the fender and my tire. I am pretty mechanically included and watching enough YouTube vids I feel I can do the job.

Living in North Dakota and the amount of snow and sand that can get packed up in the wheel well is pretty substantial. Luckily I moved from Minnesota where they use salt on the roads, but not in North Dakota.

This being said, here is my concern: when the fender lip is rolled up should I be concerned with a potential spot for water, snow and dirt to accumulate?

The fender lip sits now it is perpendicular to the fender, therefor water and dirt can get out. It is not an easy place to wash out (or even possible). If I choose to roll the fender now I am essentially making a "pocket" to hold this crud and cause a potential for corrosion. I will be careful to heat the paint up to avoid cracking the paint.
