Question How to disconnect bluetooth module in 2007 Audi A4 (B7)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got a factory-installed RNS-E with bluetooth in my B7. The RNS-E works fine, but the for the past two weeks, it is reporting No Telephone Available. It also started running down the battery at the same time, and I suspect it's a faulty bluetooth unit.

Now, I know the bluetooth module is buried under the passenger seat. Does anyone know if there's a relatively easy way to unplug the bluetooth module without having to remove the seat and tear up the carpet?

Trying to bring this back. I have the battery drain issue related to the bluetooth module failing. My intermediate remedy has been to pull the following fuses #8 5A "Telephone" and #39 20A "Radio, Stereo CD Player". This prevents me from waking up with a dead battery, but also takes away my ability to use the radio, unfortunate to say the least. I understand I have to take out the passenger seat, remove carpet and replace or remove the module for a permanent fix. My question is, is there a way to unplug the module from the back of the RNS-E? I have an OEM Quadlock with the blue, green and brown male connectors, does one of these house the power to the bluetooth module or is there an individual wire(s) that need to be pulled from multiple connectors?

    Hi Denali70,

Unfortunately, no - the connections to the Bluetooth module are not isolated to a single connection block, and not all of the BT connections go to the RNS-E.

Your best bet is to replace the BT module. You can get one on eBay for about $100, and the entire job will take less than an hour. You need a socket to remove the 4 seat bolts, which you can also get online (there's a nice tutorial on YouTube).

One word of warning: disconnect the battery before you unplug the seat connections, and don't reconnect it until you've plugged the seat back in. Otherwise, the car will detect an absence of the seat, which will trigger an airbag warning. The warning will disable all airbags until you reset the warning, which only a mechanic can do for you.

I've replaced two of these BT modules, and in both cases, it solved the battery issue *and* gave me my telephone back.

    Daaron,

Thank you for the quick reply. I figured that may be the case. When you replaced the module, did you need to recode anything with a VAG-COM or was it plug and play? As for the seat harness, I have read that you can get away without unplugging and just tipping the seat back, but obviously more of a PITA, disconnecting the battery is probably the safer route either way.

Just out of curiosity, what does the #8 5A "Telephone" fuse control the power to?

    Thanks,

    Aleks

In order to get to the BT module, you have to pull up the carpet. The first time I did this, I tried to pull it up enough without unplugging the seat, but there wasn't enough room to work. The module is inside a sealed case that must be opened, and that's really hard to do without some wiggle room. Ironically, unplugging the seat and removing it makes the rest of the job must easier - extra 5 minutes of unplugging the battery and the seat, and then plugging everything back in will save you like 45 minutes of struggling with the module case.

As for the #8 5A "Telephone" fuse, I suspect it's for the silly phone interface in the armrest, but I'm not certain.

Note: If you do unplug the seat, don't forget my warning above!

No recoding necessary via VAG-COM once the new module is installed ?

No, provided you replace it with the same part number. For my car, I swapped out a 8P0862335J for another 8P0862335J. Worked the instant I turned the car on. I think you only need VAG-COM if you're changing options (e.g., adding BT to a car that didn't have it previously).

I always assumed that the BT module was just the single fuse. When I install an aftermarket radio pulling the single fuse kills the BT module from interfering with the aftermarket BT controls.

Are the CCM and the CCEM both in that same case? Thanks

Issue with radio staying on and it drained my battery overnight. This just happened out of the blue.
It's been a month and I'm still not able to start my Audi because of this. I figured the car could be jumped.
Nope. I figured I could just buy a new battery and the car would start? Nope. Here's a few of the weird
symptoms and I'm hoping you guys can finally help me resolve this issue as it sounds similar to the OP.
However, I honestly have no idea if my 2006 Audi S4 Avant (B7) has BlueTooth or not? I assumed it didn't.
I've owned the car now for almost 3 years and it has the Bose System with the 6 disc CD changer. It also
has some automated woman's voice if I press a button asking me who I want to call. But this isn't BT right?

With that said- I don't know if my issue has anything to do with a BlueTooth module because I always thought
my car didn't have BT to begin with. But now I'm hearing people with the same year B7 as mine talking about
their car having BT so I'm a bit confused? Here's a few things that are odd about the issue I'm dealing with
despite installing a brand new battery in my car.

-Won't start (won't even make a sound) and it doesn't appear that the fuel pump priming sound happens
    -No horn
    -No power windows
-Radio works (but STILL stays on and refuses to turn off when key removed from ignition)

I'm confused why the horn and power windows at very least wouldn't work with a brand new battery?
Perhaps my car needs to be running in order for the horn to work? I can't recall if I've ever honked my
horn with the car off or not? But that still leaves me confused as to why the windows won't go up or down?
With that said- the MMI (little black screen in my dash) also seems to have went blank on me.
Usually when the key is in the ignition the message of "Press foot on brake to start car" or something like
that pops up on the little screen. But now it's just blank.

Please help! I'm losing my mind and in hard times can't afford to take my car to a dealership.

I recently pulled the OEM BT mod. out of my RS4 and sent it out for repair. I haven’t had a chance to put it back yet, but I can tell you that I did have a battery drain issue, but after having dealer troubleshoot they said the module was dead. It is located under the passender seat. It’s not a wonderful job, as the seat is not light and has to be articulated about to get it out and having a bad back doesn’t help. In any case, it is located in a plastic electronics box under the carpet. In order to get the carpet up enough to access that box (which is held together with wonderful little easily broken tabs) I needed to get out some of the trim towards the back seat. I did this at the same time I had the headliner redone, which required removing pretty much all of the interior so the timing worked out. I am still unsure of exactly how the factory BT is powered, but I am thinking it may get power from the radio? Anyways, good luck!
