    2009 B8 A4 Door Issue

So bought a used B8 A4 today, I noticed a door issue. The passenger door will not open from the outside unless I manually open it from the inside first. When I unlock the car via the key fob, all of the doors have an audible thunk with the exception of the passenger door. Once I open it from the inside, I can reclose it and it will open again so long as it doesn't lock. Is this a common issue or nay? and What is the issue?

never heard of anyone with that issue, i'm guessing you just have a bad automatic lock on that door, that's why you need to manually unlock to open it and its fine until you lock it again.

when you say open from the inside are you opening that door from the inside or do you just mean unlocking from the inside? if its locked and you press the unlock button on your driver door, does the passenger door still not open from the outside? if so it looks like its most likely that then, the automatic/remote part of the lock isn't responding on that door.

I had the same problem with a 2009 A4 I bought in December for my daughter. I replaced the door lock mechanism on the passenger door then started having the same issue on the rear passenger side door. Funny thing was, when I had a battery charger hooked up the problem went away. After some further testing I determined that a slightly low battery causes the door lock mechanism to only partially work. You might want to try charging your battery and see if the problem goes away.

I've had this issue with both front driver and passenger doors. The cost to replace the mechanism is over $500 unless you are CPO then it's just the $85 deductible.

Either battery or your door doesnt shut flush with the body causing the lock to not get pushed all the way in when you shut it therefore not unlocking all the way when you unlock it with the keyfob for the first time.

When you unlock it with the keyfob try pushing the door in first before pulling to open.
