How can i prevent my radio from turning off WITH the car?

MMI (i.e. those with Nav) equipped A4 B8's can arrive to their destination while listening to the radio, shut the car off and continue listening to the radio uninterrupted until they open their door. AMI (i.e. those without Nav) equipped A4 B8's get our radio's turned off with the car. I'm in the process of making my center console outlet active, the way it was on my 2008 A4 (and apparently most older VW/Audi models), now, I want to figure out how to make my radio stay on so that I can listen to uninterrupted music. Also, is there a way to make the radio stay on in longer intervals in case I want to go to a drive in movie or listen to the radio while I work on my car? My AMI equipped A4 only gets 10 minutes and then I have to restart my radio. Any help or leads to another forum would be helpful.

For those who say that Audi did this for my safety or for the well-being of my car, I don't buy it. Most of us mod our cars the moment we can. That's why we're here.

Can you just turn on the radio after you shut off the car as a workaround?

I most certainly can, but that's not what I'm trying to accomplish.

Dangit Audi! For crying out loud, Hyundais have the feature I'm looking for. My girl friend's INfiniti G35 has the feature where you double press the push start button and the radio remains on. Audi's with Navigation can listen to uninterrupted music. I have to keep my car running so I don't miss out on the game, or program i'm listening to. What's up with that??

It turns off by itsself after a while. So you would have to keep turning it on constantly, which is pretty annoying when you're trying to listen to music and wash your car at the same time

Gotcha, I hadn't noticed. Have you tried this VCDS coding?

To increase radio play time after car is turned off:

    In the Hidden Menu:

    MMI 2G:
"MMI->SETTINGS->Standby Timer" - will allow you to hear e.g. Radio or CD longer before MMI shutdown (if ignition is OFF) - default 10 min. and the max. is 60 min.

    MMI 3G:
From the main screen select 'onofftimer', set 'Standby delay'. The maximum value is 30 minutes.

Found this thread for the radio to stay on. Apparently the country code must be changed using VCDS, however I'm not sure how if it messes with the units for speed (i.e. mph vs kph) and temperature (Celsius vs Farhenheit). Does anyone have any insight?? By the way, I only have AMI (non navigation). Can thi and the length of time the radio stays on be accomplished for us with AMI??????

From what I know, there is no hidden menu for AMI equipped cars.

Adjust radio Chorus/Concert/Symphony stopping time: According to unconfirmed post at motor-talk.de (http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/codie...3.html?page=55), one can adjust this from module 56, adaptation channel 3, from 1 to 99 minutes.

    ^cool

FYI, the non nav system isn't called "AMI." AMI stands for Audi music interface, which is the iPod interface.

Thanks for clarifying, but don't AMI equipped cars all lack navigation? If not, is there a name for non-navigation cars?

By the way, I am getting a hold of someone with VCDS today and will attempt the country code change to Great Britain to see if that allows my radio to stay on when turning the car off. I will report back with information. If this is successful, then I will have cracked the code to my 1st world problem.

    From TDIClub Forum:
"I tried both GB and Germany, as well as Rest of World. Germany is better for Canadians because it doesn't by default use gallons, miles, etc. Anyway, yes, same procedure.

    To change country code:
    - click on 17 Instruments
    - click on Coding
    - click on Long Coding Helper
    - change drop down country selection and save changes

    ""

    Apparently, for non nav cars...
...You need VAG-COM cable to change from 1-99 minutes:
    [56 – Radio]
    [Adaptation – 10] -> Channel 03 -> default, you have 10 (ten minutes change from 1-99 minutes

The non nav is usually referred to as such because there are 3 different radios the concert symphony and chorus

Unfortunately I didn't get to try it yet. I found someone in my regional forum with vcds but we haven't met yet. Perhaps someone here with AMI can try it on their car to see if it works and share back.

Until then, I may try it tomorrow.

I tried today. I changed the country code to Great Britain but nothing changed as far as the units which makes me unsure whether changing the country code works or not. My search will continue until I find a solution

The coding you posted was also in the link I posted and THAT WORKS!!! I changed mine to 99 min, so now I can listen to the radio for up to 99 minutes after restarting it. So that is fixed, but now I need to find a way for the radio to stay on when I shut the car off.

This BMW forum suggests the issue is in the fuses. http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=766585

I'll give that a shot next.
