    Launch Control Help Needed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay, I've tried about 6 times now to engage launch control and it's only worked once. The other times the engines revs to about 2000 rpm and doesn't go any higher, seems real boggy.

Yes I've read the owner's manual and here are my steps:

    1) disable traction control
    2) turn to dynamic mode, however shift lever still in D, not S or manual.
3)left foot brake then within 1-2 sec
    4)floor the accelerator

Not sure why this doesn't work everytime. What am I missing? Not pressing the brake hard enough? Not pressing the gas down fast enough?

And please be kind, I've only had this car for 3 weeks :)

Just hit the traction control button once, brake to the floor hold it while pressing accelerator. Foot off brake to go.

Check launch control counter if already launched 200 times it won't do it anymore

    This is what I do:

With the car already in dynamic mode, press brake to floor, then I hit the ESC button.
Pull the shifter so it is in S mode.
Floor the accelerator (should hit 5000 rpm's)
After it revs, immediately release brake.

+1. You are not in dynamic mode if the transmission is in D. The transmission mode overrides your Audi Drive Select mode for engine/transmission and btw, there is no difference between Comfort and Auto mode as far as the engine/transmission is concerned. Both Comfort and Auto have the same throttle map and shift points. So, Comfort = Auto = D and Dynamic = S. That also means D -> M is different from S -> M.

Manuel clearly states, need to be in (S) and or Dynamic. If you switch to dynamic, the program shifts to (S) for you. You can do it in comfort by just shifting to (S) if I am not mistaken as well. But sport has to be enabled for it to work.

The manual is clear, which is why I said I read it but was still having problems. I had been using dynamic mode only, which bullet point 2 says is OK. So airborne6, what was your suggestion?

There is a small problem with the instructions in the manual. That is if you are already in Dynamic mode at the time you start the engine, you are actually not in Dynamic mode, because every time you stop the engine, the transmission goes back to comfort/auto. Everything else stays in Dynamic mode. The instructions in the manual assume that you are currently not in Dynamic mode, because then as soon as you select Dynamic mode, the transmission goes into S.

So good! Thanks you for this explanation. I will re-try launch control when the weather conditions here improve.

Also, I wish the instrument cluster would say something bad ass like "Launch Control Engaged" when all the appropriate conditions were met. :)

You said you were in dynamic, yet the trans was in (D) not (S). The manual states it has to be in S. Like my post said, if you have the car running, switch to Dynamic, the trans goes into sport mode. If you drive in dynamic every day when you stop the car, and restart it the setting are all dynamic, except the trans. My suggestion is put the car in (S) as this seems to be the only thing you had off from the manual, and then go through with the directions.

Not trying to be a dick, but the instructions seem pretty clear, as I felt my post was.

I'm not trying to be a dick either, but now you are just paraphrasing the answer by superswiss, which actually was clear.

Truthfully, I didn't read his/her post. I posted from experience, I drive in Dynamic or Individual pretty often.

But it's cool, hope it works out for you. It's pretty fun once you get it down.

Thank you everyone for the help. I was able to get the launch control to work yesterday! Didn't realize the key was seeing S>D on the display. All better now. :)

Where exactly is this in the VCDS program? I was trying to find it the other night when changing codes around. Anyone have the exact location?

Yep, and even when not doing launch control having it in S mode will make a difference.
