    OEM touch-up paint doesn't match

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Someone sideswiped my rear bumper in a parking lot (always nice to come back to) a couple months ago and my detail guy thought he'd be able to do a good job with just touch up paint, since all the damage was on the edge of the crease on the side of the back bumper. He just asked me to pick up some OEM touch up paint from an Audi dealer.

Well.... turns out the OEM touch up paint is coming out considerably lighter than the car. The car is Monsoon grey, but the touch up is almost silver, like my wheels.

Anybody else have a bad experience with Audi OEM touch up-paint? Is my best option to go to a body shop who can do a better job of paint matching than the OEM touch-up paint? I prefer to avoid a respray, if possible.

    thanks

Make sure it's mixed right and make sure the paint number is correct. All in all, let it go. I know it'll suck, but if you get something else on the bumper, maybe you can respray then. It's hardly noticeable. This is probably not what you want to hear, but it is what it is.

In hindsight, I should have just lived with the black scratches, but with the touch up paint, they're now almost silver and look worse than the before picture, IMO.

I've ordered touch up spray paint from Paintscratch .com in the past. Brilliant red. Matched perfectly on both my 2004 and 2010 S4s.

Don't have any experience with the OEM touch-up paint, but I used the Dr Colorchip kit on my Ibis in the past and it matched perfectly.

When I stopped by my dealer to order a touch up stick and told him the year and color, he looked it up and said I needed to check the paint code in the trunk under the tire cover. Apparently there are different Deep Sea Blue Metallic color shades, is that the case for your color as well?

The touch up I got from the dealer for my ibis white matches.

Yes you can remove the touchup paint with 3m adhesive remover. I would try applied colors.

Did not read the replies, but I tried oem 3 times. Their Avus silver did not match for shit. Much lighter. I ended up going to my body shop for one stage. Perfect match. I've gone to them for touch-up since.

I actually had the same exact problem and also have monsoon gray. The first time my detailer was touching up a scratch with the OEM paint pen it came out darker than what the color of mycar was (like a blackish gray). I bbrought this up with my Audi salesman and he wound up giving me another pen that matched much better. I don't know what happened but the first pen did say monsoon gray on it...

I had an issue where the silver touch up was closer to a gray. Returned to dealer and they gave me another set which matched fine.

Thanks for the tip on looking up paint codes. The touch-up pen says LSTX7R while the code in my trunk is LX7R, so that could be the issue.

Here's the bumper before the LSTX7R

And here's the bumper with the wrong color touch up. Hardly noticeable in this light, but very noticeable to me.

It didn't occur to me to check the paint code, because the parts guy used my VIN number to figure out which paint to give me. Not sure where the disconnect would be been, but I'll try again with what I hope is the right paint.

    Thanks all,
    GaroTT

Just bought a 2014 B8.5 in Glacier White. Got a rock chip on my front bumper, and was told by my Audi parts dept that Audi has discontinued touch-up paint for my color. Reason: the pen draws gray, even though the label clearly says white.
