A sad night

A tree blew down in front of me last night on the way home from work. I missed most of the trunk (nearly 9" in diameter), but ran through a bunch of small branches and one thick branch that took out my windshield and passenger side mirror, also put a nice dent in the passenger side A pillar. There is a small scuff on the passenger side headlight and some scratches on the hood and both fenders, the roof is and from the doors back looks totally intact, but I am still guessing $5k plus.

Much sad. If your windshield is anything like mine, probably a good thing to get replaced.

...but did you go back and check out the tree?! There may be a 'logical' explanation

I wish you luck that it didn't change the shape of your pillars. A pillar damage can easily cause a write off

I don't think it will be totaled, it looks to be just the outer skin of the pillar and should mostly pop out I think.

Look at the bright side, assuming it doesn't get totaled, you've got a dtm conversion and brand new paint job coming.

DTM has crossed my mind, the DTM front on the avant is amazing, lots of work to keep the fogs though. I'll have to see what they give me, if there is lots left over then maybe, I would like to pay the difference and have the rear of the car painted as well. Just scored a set of minty s4 mirrors on ebay. I'm curious whether this will be considered a comp or collision claim, I have a $100 comp deductible and a $500 collision deductible.

Sucks man. I'd suggest go ahead and take off that mirror so it doesn't scratch up the door rattling around.

It's just parked right now anyways, I don't want to mess with it too much until I have my estimate done.

A guy just stopped by to do the estimate, he said it would probably be collision as well. :( He said if the tree fell on top of the car it would be comp, but because it fell in front of the car it would probably be collision. He said most of the scratches will probably buff out, he wrote up the windshield, the mirror, the headlight, the rubber trim piece on the passenger side of the windshield, the aluminum trim piece under the passenger window, pull the dent out of the a-pillar, paint for the a pillar, paint the mirror cap, and paint the passenger door under the mirror, labor to buff the scratches off, and labor to pull the seats and dash to clean glass out of the car. I'm really curious to see the total, he said he would write it all up and call me tonight.
