Need to replace coolant hard line

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So today when I was removing my intake manifold I heard the sound of water dripping and found a small puddle under the car of antifreeze, I tracked the source and its the Hard coolant line that goes from the top of the turbo around the back of the engine and to the oil cooler,

Any ideas where i can find this part??

Is there anything better to replaced this hard line with?

I goggle searched and I'm not finding the line that I need but Coolant hard line may not be what Audi calls it.

Interesting through searching the line that I found the antifreeze leak on is a oil line, mmmmmmmmm maybe its coming from the coolant temp sensor housing, and I'm at work so I cant go out and look either

Umm. Sounds to me like you are describing the PCV line. There is no coolant line that runs were you describe. The coolant flange on the back of the head is a very possible leak source

The hard metal pipe that goes from the turbo to the oil cooler is the turbo oil feed line, not a coolant line.

If you're losing coolant, I would take a look at the coolant flange on the back of the head.

Don't know about a billet flange, but it's really not a hard job. They last awhile if you install them correctly too, I would just pay the ~$10 or whatever it is and just replace it

It doesnt look to be too hard, since I no longer have the EGR valve in the way
sounds like this will be on my "To do" list this weekend.

Just don't cheap out on the flange, go OEM. It's a few dollars more but definitely worth it. Not a great track record for the off brands. Also make sure you get a new o-ring for the upper coolant pipe connection. Also not a bad time to replace the coolant temp sensor if you haven't done so recently.

How much coolant should I drain to change this flange without making too much of a mess?

You'll lose a decent amount since it will dump all the coolant from the head and upper pipe, but I wouldn't worry about trying to drain a certain amount unless you're due to change the coolant anyways.

Pop the flange off, clean the back of the head, coat new o-rings in coolant, install flange, install hard pipe to flange with o-ring, swap or replace temp sensor/plug into new flange, fill and bleed coolant system.

To easily drain the coolant get some flexible tubing that will fit over the radiator drain nipple (next to red screw). I forget what the size is that fits....... pretty sure 9/16". A very out there size to say the least. One foot would be plenty. Then direct the tube into a container of some sort. Makes zero mess and I can't believe it took me so long to do it this way. Only a little bit will dribble out of the coolant flange after wards. Just stuff some paper towel below the flange after draining radiator and you shouldn't make a mess. Good luck.

I got it replaced was pretty easy to do since I already had the intake manifold out of the car, the o ring was a ring of mush.

I've become a pro at this takes me about 10 min now. Bought a cheap brand installed it put everything back together filled with water to test and and it leaked stripped the top bolt trying to tighten it took off replaced the oring with a new one fixed the top hole with a standard tap and same thing leaked like a faucet. I think the cheap ones oring cutouts are deeper so doesn't allow the oring to seal. Just fixed it again tonight took it off put some rtv and installed again took me about 10 min in the rain all you need is a 10mm socket and extension

So I replaced my coolant flange last week. However, it didn't come with an o-ring for the hard coolant line, even though it was supposed to. Grr. I needed the car, so I band-aided it with some water pump/thermostat gasket maker. Car leaks out of there a bit. I was wondering if anyone knew where to get just the o-ring, or if I could just get an o-ring from Pepboys to slap in there to stop the leak?

If I'm not mistaken, that shows two o-rings, right? Then I got the plug kit that came with the plug, retainer clip, and that o-ring, and a coolant temp sensor that came with the retainer clip and that o-ring. So where the fuck is my second o-ring, dammit!? Lol.

if you can find the size or are able to take one of the 2 parts with you, you might be able to find a o ring for it at your local auto parts store or a ace hardware
