Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Spring is almost here and there is no better time to take advantage of GIAC software specials! Spring specials are available from March 16th, 2014 through May 15th, 2014 for most of GIAC’s VW/Audi software offerings. If you have any questions regarding specials on a particular model or calibration, please don’t hesitate to ask. More power, more options, more savings!

GIAC’s software switching is the quickest, most seamless program switching option available for VWs and Audis on the market. Users can switch programs on the fly with a single push of a button, and without the need to cycle their ignition. Fully loaded offerings include a GIAC Flashloader Handheld Program Switcher and all available switching modes (unless otherwise noted):

Available Options in addition to 91/93 octane performance modes:
    • “Stock” mode: reverts vehicle to stock performance levels
    • 100 octane performance: higher performance calibrated for 100 octane. Can be used with 50/50 water meth on some models
    • Valet: Zero boost & lazy throttle response make the car more of a burden than a joy to drive.
    • Kill (not available on TSI models): Security mode that keeps the engine from being started with Kill mode activated.

    Simos 8.4 Stage 1, 93 & 100 octane 6MT:

    Simos 8.4 Stage 2, 93 & 100 octane 6MT:

    Hi, few questions:

    1) Is the dealer map up to date or do you have more dealers in the Montreal region ? Only one shows and I don't feel like going downtown Mtl every time I need support. I'm 1.5 hour north of Montreal.
    2) Does the ECU need to be removed for the first flash or do you offer OBD flashing on 2012 S4 ?
    3) If one day I buy the AWE stage 2 pulley, do it include the software update to stage 2, if I need to spend $ to upgrade, what is the cost ?
    4) Do you plan on offering a way to update the flash like unitronic does with the uniconnect ?

    Thank you,

If you can, PM me your postal code so I can do a bit more research. For what it's worth, I don't believe you will be flashing back to stock as much as you think.

    2) Does the ECU need to be removed for the first flash or do you offer OBD flashing on 2012 S4 ?

    No, 100% OBD2

    3) If one day I buy the AWE stage 2 pulley, do it include the software update to stage 2, if I need to spend $ to upgrade, what is the cost ?

The stage 2 software update is included in the price of the pulley

    4) Do you plan on offering a way to update the flash like unitronic does with the uniconnect ?

If we did a smaller map flash, that might be an option. Because of the relative flash time, we prefer that updates are applied by dealers for support reasons (if a crash occurs, etc..).

So based on the above, if I go strait to stage 2, the tune is also $1080? Do you know if Autoscope Plano can do port flashing right now?

Assuming I install the pulley myself, I am trying to figure out what my local GIAC/AWE dealer would charge me. Me and another local are about to do the pulley installs in the next week or so (his is on the way from AWE, and I'm still debating GIAC/AWE or APR).

I was actually leaning towards APR because of how much Autoscope wanted to charge for the GIAC/AWE stage 2 upgrade, but if I can get the tune for $1080, and port flashed, along with installing the pulley myself, I may be back to GIAC/AWE....

why do you have results that vary by so much? on the first b8.5 stage 1 graph where stage 1 is on its own, you have it marked at 359whp on 91 octane. in the next chart below, you have it maxed out at 328whp. Is it only because of the different dynos? That seems like a big different especially if they are both mustang dynos. Also, on the second graph for the b8.5x you are showing 354whp for stage 1 which is less than stage 1 on the chart above. What is accounting for these differences? I am just curious. Does the DSG play any role in it?

Hello Austin, i recently got flashed to stage 2 and i have the pump, race, valet files available but no "stock" file option as read from the flashloader. Is the stock file extra? I was under the impression it was included.

Love the tune btw, can't get enough! Also can't wait for the updated version!

Potential derp post, but is this available for the B8.5 yet. If so, totally ODB flashable as well, including the first flash?

Austin. I see the dyno graphs attached at the top here. I see you had an update to the file for stage 2 a few months ago getting more power. Is this file updated as well or just the stage 2 w dsg file?

Per AWE's website, Stage 2 is on sale right now for $1609.08 with software and the pulley. I will make sure that they know this is 100% an OBD2 port flash (no longer a bench flash) so that they can adjust their installation rates accordingly. Call over to their lovefield location and speak with Jason. I talk to him often and he can definitely get you sorted.

You're comparing a Stage 1 6 speed manual car that revs out to 7,200 RPM to an S-Tronic model that shifts at approximately 6,350 RPM (this dyno wasn't performed with our S-Tronic software installed). When the S-tronic is able to rev higher, the results are much more similar.

The revision that you're on should include stock mode. The new revision I am working on right now won't include it.

I have been hesitant to post an ETA on the new file because I am too picky and keep changing minor things.

We have stage 1 and 2 available for all B8.5 models in addition to S-Tronic transmission software (ECU AND trans software available). All have switchable modes, 100% OBD2 port flash. We do not remove the ECU at all on any 3.0T model anymore.

The current revision of B8 software is quite similar to the B8.5, power wise. The new file coming out should widen the gap a bit.

I personally own a 2012 Stage 2 S4 and it has seen plenty of dyno time.

I'm new to this...so please pardon my ignorance. If I want to go from stock to GIAC stage II on my 2013 (B8.5) with 6MT, do I buy the "AWE Tuning B8.5 Stage 2 Performance Pulley Kit" from AWE and also the "AWE Tuning B8.5 Stage 2 Upgrade" or do I only need the "AWE Tuning B8.5 Stage 2 Performance Pulley Kit"?

After I get the right kit/parts, do I then contact my local GIAC dealer to have my car flashed with the new ECU? Will they honor me buying the kit/software from another dealer? Does it matter who I have install the pulley (I assume not)?

Just making sure, folks with stage 1 and tcu, going to stage 2 there is no break.

If currently stock and going straight to stage 2 with tcu, you get a break on the stage one software part as posted on the first page, the "combo" deal for getting the tcu and ecu tune, and no deal on the stage 2 part. Correct?

I'm in Illinois, I have stage 1 and the tcu, my boss has nothing. If we both go up to stage 2, minus install costs what am I paying and what is he paying; so that at the end of the day we both end up with our B8.5 DSG cars on stage 2 with the tcu tune. Hope that clears it up?

I just got a reply back from Komet about the "stock" flash loader option on the stage 2.

"Whoever you spoke with at GIAC misspoke. There is no “stock” option on a stage 2 car due to the pulley change. There is only a “stock” option on stage 1. I don’t have an option to load the stock program when loading stage 2 software. I contacted GIAC moments ago and they confirmed this."

I'm confused? There is not stock option available via the flashloader for stage 2 software?

If this is the case - it would be nice at least to be able to toggle between a 91 and 93 file... "stock" could be 91, "pump" could be 93.... otherwise what do we do if road tripping somewhere that doesn't have 93?!

The pump file runs both 91 and 93 without a problem.

Why are there separate 91 or 93 files then?
I'd like GIAC's input on this...

    Certain parts of the country don't get 93. Usually it's 87, 89, {91, 93}

Edit - didn't' follow entirety of discussion. n/m, leaving this for clarity.

We have both 91 and 93 octane files for the B8 models. They are typically installed based on region IE tri-state owners get 93 by default, whereas CA owners get 91.

    I understand that.
But I was asking above if there is no "stock" file. Then for those running the 93 file (like me), when we go on road trips where 91 is only available what are we supposed to do? Drob said that the 93 file can run 91 on it no problem - so I asked if that's the case, then why are there two separate 91 and 93 files if the one can handle both octane?
