So the Sedan has to go, I got an Avant

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Been lurking for a while, soaking it all up. Kept my Sedan pretty stock. Some piggies and tinted windows. But I wanted an Avant, I did when I got the Sedan but couldn't find one. So last wednesday I flew to Louisville and drove one home.

It's already got a Milltek cat back. Though they did put a cold air intake on. I already have a stock air box on the way. And am reworking a set of stock downpipes, gutting the pre cats and replacing the main cats with some high flow cats. Then it's on to the tune.

I'm actually taking both to the dyno on Saturday to get some baselines. And the Sedan is up for sale.

I'm also thinking of powder coating the stock rims black. So many decisions.

Yeah I agree on the tips, and I will get to that. It's got 114k miles on it. One owner. Completely documented service wise. 6 speed manual, which was the hard thing about finding one. Wasn't thrilled with it being black, but it was not a deal breaker. Though about swapping interiors as I prefer the gray in my sedan, but the two tone black w/grey inserts is growing on me.

Hey that looks like my car!
Great find and good luck modding.

Dont bother making the rims black.
Get yourself another set or another brand to play with.
When you get ready to sell most people don't like black wheels.

Glad you finally got the Avant. So much more versatile. I would not do black wheels on a black Avant, I think it will diminish the look of the car.

Actually Phantasm has an AWD dyno and are pretty convenient to me. All I'm looking for at the moment is a baseline.

It would also be really cool if someone in the Raleigh-Durham area had a JHM cable. :)

    Beautiful car and manual! Congrats!

I settled for a tip avant here but also got one with full service history and one owner so it was a compromise....i guess. I'm at 109k miles now so just a bit behind you.

Nice to see another b7 avant.

So the Sedan did great, the Avant, not so much. I knew it was going to be bad. Got a misfire I need to track down. Plugs tomorrow and working on the down pipes. And a stock air box going back in. Hope that gets me close to the sedan.

Super duper. Yes the exhaust tips look about 3cm out too far. Also they are too close to the valance (along the tip sides).

Any ideas what the power loss is attributable to? is it a case of badly tuned (or not at all) after the PO put on pipes etc? or is it more of the maintenance thing? I guess your plan to return to stock and new plugs should answer these

Looks like an amazing car... having gone back and forth from silver to gunmetal and back to silver, leave wheels alone... dark colors make them look a size smaller IMHO

    Congrats!

I'm thinking the biggest issue is a clogged cat. Combine that with either needing plugs or a coil pack or two and I think that is the biggest issues. As for the cold air intake, it's real noisy and I have never seen a dyno sheet for a B7 where it made power. The stock air box is pretty damn good.
