Can i swap engine and transmission (auto) from
    2003 A6 Quattro 2.7T
    into
    2004 A6 Quattro 3.0

Do I also need to swap the rear end (if 3.0 tranny has different gearing than 2.7T tranny)?

    Alternative:
    swap
    2003 A6 Quattro 2.7T auto
    into
    2001 Allroad auto
(I know rear diff needs to be swapped also, but possible aside from that? Drive shafts (front, center, rear)?
01 Allroad Tiptronic, TCU tune, mild stg 3 (350 HP) tune (stock injectors) KraftwerkTurbo TM1. Lower, Wider. Custom tip vent pod with Podi
02 Allroad 6 spd, Kraftwerk Turbo TM6, 750cc, 3" MAF, piggy, FMIC, CM stg 5 (hate). 30 psi at 3600 rpm. Needs stronger rods (coming).
    05 Golf TDI

If the AR has the air suspension then you need to use the AR front axles. Also the A6 propshaft has to be shimmed to be used in the AR.

Decided to use the 2.7T drivetrain from the 2003 A6 in the 2004 A6 3.0. Can I swap engine and tranny into the 2004 3.0? Are trannies identical? Do I need to softcode/change the TCU?

Or is everything 'bolt on' and 'plug and play' (from 2003 2.7T to 2004 3.0).

Correction: the 3.0 A6 is a 2002 (just looked up the VIN)
This is the 2002 3.0 TCU scan:

    No fault code found.
