    Fuse 34 Blowing

Bought my car (02 A4 3.0Q) last week and shortly after the CEL came on. After looking up the codes (there were 11!) it seemed they were all related to fuse 34 being blown. Popped open the fuse box and sure enough it was. Its supposed to be a 15a fuse, but the guy had a 20a in there and that was dead. At this point, a week later, I've had to replace it another couple times. Any ideas why it might keep blowing? Anything I should look for?

What is fuse #34 listed as on the fuse panel diagram?

Is anything else wired in to fuse 34? Such as an aftermarket phone charger, GPS unit, dash cam, radar detector, etc.? It looks like that may be for the 12V socket in the center, which is probably a common point to tap into when installing stuff.

IIRC, fuse #34 is "engine timing"...so look around the N249, N75 and the cam timing sensor, moving from the connectors -> back towards the ECU.

Check for any loose wires, bad connectors/pins, broken wires, torn/melted wire loom, or exposed wires. Something is shorting out in the circuit and is blowing the fuse.

If you can get it scanned with VCDS, it would maybe help trace the problem to the specific solenoid. If not, just do some really good wire inspection.

Fuse #34 on the 1.8T is engine management. I'm not sure if it differs on the 3.0. When my engine management fuses were popping it was caused by broken frayed wires on the coil pack harnesses.

Notice there are 2 fuses for Engine Management. The 20 amp fuse powers the ECU power supply relay and the 15 amp fuse powers the ECU.

To confirm, 34 is one of the engine management fuses on the 3.0.

I'll go hunting for shorts after work and report back. Thanks for the tips.

So I think this might be it ...

Gonna patch it up until I can get a replacement in so the fuse stops blowing for now. This one was going to the sensor straight down, but had the long cable which was just pushed down against the engine.

Is there any difference between the front and rear O2 sensors themselves, besides the cable length?

Yes they are different. Front sensor is a wideband sensor. Rear one isn't.
