My tranny fluid is in need of changing on my 150k audi and was wondering what fluid is compatible with the a4 1.8t.

Looking to buy it at a parts place unless I REALLY have to get it at the dealer.

Anybody have a brand or any info like synthetic or non synthetic?

    Thanks.

I forgot who told me this but if you're going to drain, replace filter and fill back up would it be good to mix different brands of transmission fluid with the original Audi in there? Unless you do a full flush, there's still lot of old fluid in there.

as long as it meets the same spec that the car requires I wouldnt worry about it, the esso lt1141 or whatever it is. I just did our b5 2.8 tip and I used a meyle filter kit and vaico fluid from ecs and its been 6 months now and no issues.

I'm seeing different amounts of quarts to put in the audi 03 1.8t b6.

If I just want to do a change with filter and not the complete transmission fluid change what is the amount of quarts I need?

I'm seeing from 2.7 at napa to like 5 at amsoil.

I used close to 6 quarts including all that I spilled. Drained, filter change, refilled.

I bought 6 and used 5.5 and that was dropping the pan and changing the filter.

OP, what kind of transmission? Fluid type, capacity, and filters are going to depend on what transmission you have.

Honestly I'm a new owner to an audi and I wouldn't know what type of transmission I have.

I do know I have a 1.8t audi a4 turbo 2003 fwd but transmission wise im not sure.

Would I just have to go by my vin?

Now one of my cousins mechanic is saying my vehicle doesn't contain a transmission filter? I know that can't be right since I just went to napa and ordered one, right?

I'm just going to buy the 6 quarts and see what happens.

I bought it with 150k but for a low price so I joined this forum and little by little I'm learning and working on getting the maintenance done.

You have a CVT transmission and it's not something you want to cheap out on, trust me. I just spent the last 2 hours reading through my Bentley manual about them. There are filters for them but one you would have to take the back case of the transmission off to access it. I believe one of the filters is located externally and is easier to replace. On initail filling of the CVT it would take approximately 7.5 liters to fill. When you are changing the fluid it takes approximately 4.5 to 5 liters. The part number for the ATF fluid is G 052 180 A2. There are certain procedures that need to be followed when changing the fluid, it's not a simple drain and fill process. Temperature of the fluid needs to be monitored to make sure the right amount of fluid is put in without overfilling. You have the most sensitive transmission for the B6.

    So it has two filters?

I thought I was just going to simply drop a tranny pan and change the filter then fill with fluid.

What's the intervals on all of the filters and the fluid for the tranny?

I'm thinking now of just leaving it alone and focus on the oil.

Already finishing up the motor and center mounts and suspension.

The CVT trans in your front wheel drive A4, requires trans fluid changes every 40,000 miles. The CVT also requires a specific type of ATF, you can't use fluid for regular auto transmissions.

Yes, an internal filter and an external inline filter. The external filter is replaced when the fluid is replaced.
