Buying used Stasis Challenge exhaust, any recommendations or areas to be wary of?

EDIT *** Paid for it already and should be in transit soon, will post review ***

    Hey guys,

The parts selection in Canada is very limited due to most of the suppliers being in the states. That being said, I've found a Stasis Challenge exhaust with 2 years of used on it for a 6MT B8. My car is also a 6MT, so no drone or expensive downpipe concern. I think the manufacturers made the drone on purpose to keep you guys from falling asleep at the wheel

It is in a nearby city, so a friend is packing it up tomorrow and transporting it down for a case of beer. He has left it intact so that I won't need to adjust to line up the tips. He did have a CF rear valance and I have stock, so I hope the openings are in the same position.

It is definitely discolored, with some heavy carbon build-up, and some rust colors around the clamps (probably on SS). These all sound about right for a 2 year used exhaust from Canada right? It is the one mod that I've never added to any car.

I was going back and forth between this or ordering Magnaflow x-pipe, 2 cans, and 2 tips. Both gave a deep, non-raspy sound, so that is important.

    Any opinions or red flags?

Do you have 6mt or dsg? I would be worried if you have dsg especially... (about the drone)

I bought mine during the big sale and it was something like $895 shipped. Does yours have the four removable silencers that allow you to go from Challenge to Touring? Too much drone for my taste in Challenge configuration but Touring sounds really good and I've had many compliments from bystanders.

not sure if you ever heard these exhausts in person but after hearing AWE and Milltek, the Stasis exhausts blow... no offense to those who have them. Everyone has their cup of tea, but you should really make sure you hear what you are getting before spending that much on a used exhaust. Like the other have said, I'd rather buy new during a sale if you really did want the stasis or buy a used AWE/Milltek once one of them show up on the boards.

I had the Stasis exhaust on my 13' S4. I regretted getting it and wished everyday I had gotten AWE. I would not get it if I were you.

The Stasis exhaust does not "blow".
It's not as great sounding as the AWE, but the challenge even with stock downpipes is a very loud exhaust. It makes music under hard acceleration, and sounds way better than miltek or borla which I have both heard in person IMO. It just a bad set up for DSG guys bc it is the drone king, the vibrations from 1500-2800 rpm is really really annoying, I've insulated my trunk to where its helped out quite a bit but befor that its was intrusive. It has also gotten quieter after 5k miles.

The challenge tips or touring tips in makes no difference to drone, the drone comes from the x pipe in the exhaust which has nothing to do with the tips. It will still drone like a mother******.

If you are getting the Stasis you can get the AWE resonated DPs and it will be great together. Its a quality built exhaust thats for sure, and it looks great.

If I were to do it again, I'd buy the AWE. I'd switch to AWE but i'm actually starting to like the Stasis.

I have the Challenge Exhaust and love it. 6MT has no drone and has a very exotic sound to it. You will be happy with it.

Just for clarification, I have a 6MT. Not worrying about drones. I actually think this exhaust provides the least raspiness, better than the expensive ones.

And, I know there was a huge sale at one time, but I didn't own my car then, I don't have a time machine, and I think $700ish CDN is reasonable. Take into account that purchases in the states need to be multiplied by 1.11 right now, then add 5% sales tax for Alberta, and add $50+ shipping.

I think that $700 and a $20 in beer for the driver is decent, as long as the product sounds good. Pfiefstudd seems to be satisfied.

No doubt the 7 hundo deal is good. It just wasn't my cup of tea, I didn't like the sound. It was OK at best IMHO.

STaSIS will be fine , considering that amount of money--
By the way--- when you are flush with cash-- the MillTek is the best by far- quiet and high output- they really spend a lot of time on the sound tuning.

Nope. I'm pretty sure he's right. It will cost more in Canadian dollars since the USD is worth more right now.

You're right. Shouldn't be typing that early haha.

    TSXCman,
I have the same car and exhaust. I'm running the touring set up, with APR/Carbonio cai. Sounds great IMO.

Obviously you've already purchased and it's past the point of no return... but do be forewarned. I had Stasis installed to by B8.5 DSG a few weeks after I purchased it in 2012. I've had nothing but headaches and endless visits back to the dealership since. First the 'decorative' plate on the mid-pipe came loose and started vibrating. Once that was fixed I would get an insanely loud grinding noise when driving long distances in the winter and when hitting a snowy section of road as the exhaust would apparently expand / contract under temperature change and rub against the driveshaft and/or underbody. Even with multiple attempts of re-adjustment and some replacement parts, the problem persisted. Worse still, the dealer couldn't get it fitting well enough where it wouldn't rattle or bump around anytime you hit a bump in the road. On top of all that... the drone, oh the drone. Around town it was amazing, the sound is just so good. Anytime you hit the highway for a long drive, a little less than ideal.

All in all, the dealer has been unable to fix and it looks like I'm heading back to stock exhaust. If only I could be reimbursed for the hours I've burned going back and forth to the dealer. It's no small wonder they have officially dropped any and all future support for Stasis products.

It won't sound AS good ripping S-tronic around town anymore, but thankfully I can now go back to loving my car to death.

It's worn for sure, the decorative Stasis plate is gone.

It is at a local shop since this morning, already assembled, just needed to be swapped, 2 bolts tightened and hanged.... They still have it. Going to be blown away if it took longer than an hour.... $130 hour/shop time. No cheap exhaust deals around nowadays, thought I could borrow a lift or pay $60 to have it hung for me.

It's also Stainless, and the shop doesn't have the proper welding setup, so they shouldn't need to do anything.

Also, 6MT, seems to drone/vibrate less on average than DSG

Just got back to my office, will post pics from home.

Came out to $160 for install.... I could have completed this in less than an hour with a lift, the pros charged an hour, quoted at $130, then changed to $160.

Garages are annoying to deal with...

Sounds good, a bit of rumble but not overkill. It's very icey here right now, so hard to go WOT.

Will post pictures and sound clip. It hangs out quite a lot, maybe normal but may be excessive.
