    Another Coolant leak thread

So I finished swapping my 2.7 into my B6. Filled her up with coolant...and a leak :/ It is dripping down the middle of the oil pan at a rate of a drop every 10+ seconds. I examined the thermostat housing and waterpump by taking off what I could and tightened the t housing. Dripping appeared to lessen slightly. I couldn't see any wetness under the water pump so a little confused. Replaced them both when I put the motor in. It appear to be trailing just to the right of the alternator, it's not the aux pump. Stumped! Anyone else have this experience? And how long can I run with a minor leak? Hoping it may go away when I start it up and let it run for the first time.

This was after a good while, it's not catastrophic. But it's not ideal.

I am in the process of replacing my waterpump because of a leak exactly like this. It was trailing exactly like yours and dripping to the right of the alternator onto the oil pan. I am also replacing the thermostat for good measure. Mine is clearly leaking from the waterpump but since you said it doesnt look like it I wonder if it is your t-stat housing? Is your housing plastic or metal? Plastic are notorious for leaking. As for driving it, my car would overheat 3/4 to H on the gauge (believe my thermostat is stuck also) so i would recommend fixing it before driving,

Good to see I'm not in this boat alone! I replaced it with a metal one to avoid the exact problem I am having. Something tells me I'm going to have to replace the t stat and water pump... Again. Even though they're brand new.

Have you turned the car over yet? I highly doubt the waterpump is bad so you should just replace the gasket. Make sure you make the surfaces as clean as possible (also check your torque specs). It should be clear with a little inspection where this leak is coming from. You might need to keep removing covers/accessories to determine the root cause. Long shot but check the hoses coming to the t-stat housing (dont think the coolant would leak in that direction but worth a quick look).

Check this area on the tstat housing also, this one came in with a leak.
Had enough wiggle room, that whoever put it on, had it resting on the head a little bit. Can see the notch where it was worn.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Thanks for the responses. Everything I out on was brand new. So to me it has to be the water pump gakset or o ring? It just doesn't make any sense it was all new and torqued to spec

It could be your oring, I remember I did a Tbelt/water pump job on an s4 and when I put everything back together there was a small drip. Took everything apart and the new oring wasn't holding up good so I just threw the old one in there. It was still in good condition.. Idk if you've figured this out yet or not
