    Power Steering Pump Leak

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a leak from the top hex bolt on the power steering pump of my of my B6 Quattro 1.8T.

Other than replacing the entire pump, I have not been able to find a replacement washer for that bolt where the leak is coming form, so I wanted to see if anyone knew of where I would be able to get one and what the part name and/or number would be.

Also, when removing this bolt to replace the washer, would I need to drain the power steering fluid first to prevent a mess, or not necessary?

And lastly, I have a picture of the area and leak with an arrow pointing to it in jpeg format, but it is on my desktop and it seems through the "insert image" feature on the forum that I can't attach the photo unless it's a URL path. Please advise.

    Thanks in advance everyone.

AFAIK, that is a banjo bolt with two washers total, one on each side. You should be able to get them from the dealership for a few bucks, unless you can find them somewhere else such as on GAP, ECS tuning, etc. Worst the dealer can do is give you a part number so you can buy them for less somewhere else.

Assuming there is a steady flow of P/S downwards, it will pour out, and if you can't change the washers fast enough you might need some P/S fluid to top off the system. I'd suggest bleeding as well. The procedure is outlined in the service manual.
