    Just upgraded my steering wheel!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Finally after a couple of weeks doing some research about the DIY for the steering wheel and airbag harness I switch it up.

I got the steering wheel (3 spoke with paddle shifters) from another a4 b8 for $40 bucks without the airbag, then I realized that the airbag from my 4 spoke wouldnt fit, but fortunately I had an old a4 b7 steering wheel with airbag, so what I did, i grabbed that airbag and hook it up to the new steering wheel using the harness of my 4 spoke airbag for proper function and with the vagcom adjusted the paddle shifter option on.

Here are a couple of crappy pics:

Nice job. Where'd you source the steering wheel if you don't mind me asking?

You'll need a new airbag for that as well...

Yeah, I wouldn't want to purchase if I couldn't source an airbag that will fit.

If I had a stock Audi a4 2010 premium plus what would I ask a junk yard for?!?!? An s4 steering wheel?!? What would exactly fit with the airbag. Also would it just be a direct fit with the connections

The airbag harness wasnt a direct fit, because the airbag was from a B7 platform and the yellow plug is slightly different so I used my 4spoke harness and replaced it.

I didnt had to ask, I went to the junk yards looking for some wheels for my bmw and I came upon the a4 b8 and saw that the steering wheel was the 3 spoke with paddle shifters.

It took me like 10 minutes to take off the steering wheel, then like 20 minutes trying to change the yellow harness (airbag came from a B7 steering wheel) and to put back the steering wheel another 5 minutes, then 2 minutes to program the ecu to activate the paddle shifters.

Its easy having the right tools and doing the correct research

There's still 1 more available from where I bought mine from ebay. Was very fast shipping too.. $360. Can use the stock airbag if you have the 4 spoke.

    Steering wheel installation: http://www.audienthusiasts.com/ProjectSteeringSwap.html
Also contact Alex@Europrice re various flat-bottom wheels and swap/harness issues.

Airbags are extremely expensive compared to wheel itself [and cannot be air shipped - explosive device!]

Search eBay.de [using Google Translate] for used/salvaged steering wheels, I got my Kamut Beige 3-spoke w/paddles that way.

Believe steering wheel swap is well-documented in A4 B8 Tech Section. Search?

That's very convenient if this is just plug and play with the current airbag. I would love a 3-spoke flat bottom but the PITA to track an airbag for it though

Yeah, the install took 25 min for me. Take off the battery cable, drain the juice with the key. Unbolt the airbag, unplug the 2 clips, then the center bolt for the wheel. After that you just reinstall with the new wheel.

You will have to have someone turn on the paddles via VAGCOM. I found someone on craigslist for $40.

Man that would be GREATLY appreciated, to say the least.. Thanks for looking out

Edit: If they have a B8 with the wiper column switch/stalk with the DIS/trip computer buttons on the end that would be awesome as well. Wouldn't hurt to upgrade that little doohiky while the steering wheel is already coming off. (And, of course, I'd be willing to compensate you for your time).
