I want to take my stock A4 to 400HP, have $6000 at hand for upgrade. Need suggestions

I've checked APR, but their turbo stage 3 system offers 375 horsepower, so I'm wondering is there anything stronger than that. I mean I don't see APR offering anything higher than stage 3 @ 375HP.

I am pretty new to tuning, so I need more information. Any more powerful turbo kits out there?

It really depends how much $$ you want to spend. Frankenturbo F23L is the best deal for around $2000-$2500 all-in, and can get you 300whp, which is roughly 375-400 at the crank.

Otherwise you'll have to go with a big turbo variant. Something like this GTX28 kit from RAI. Some people haven't had the best experience with RAI, but they are in Baltimore.

    http://www.raimotorsport.com/RAI-B7A...4_2.0t_gtx.htm

Another option is the 2.7T swap with K04/RS6 turbos. Becoming more common and you can do it for around $6000. You can easily make a reliable 450whp with that setup, or do rods for an extra $500 and make 550+.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is a swap? Are you saying replacing my 2.0 engine with a 2.7 engine?

    Also, another stupid question.

Can the APR 3 Stage 3 turbo kit be upgraded further? Are turbo kits upgrade-able?

I understand that Stage 3 runs the GT2871R but instead of the GT2871R can I get it with GTX2867R instead?

I edited my post for clarity. However, yes that's one option- but it's much more work.

save up about twice as much

do NOT go to RAI unless you want your car back with stripped holes and missing bolts, a manifold and downpipe that don't fit... that's just the beginning. not until i completely tore down my motor and put it back together was i able to fix all the idiotic damage they did, not counting of course the complete engine failure requiring an extensive/expensive rebuild that happened 1200 miles after i got the car back, because they didn't even do research / look to replace a part that has failed in multiple 2.0T's under their care (not their fault that it blew up, but they knew it was an issue, had dealt with it before, and didn't care). i just recently got them to take my build off their site. i got the car back with major oil leak, siphoning w/m because ray "swore" he put a solenoid in which they didn't, i could literally go on for days about the amount of fuckups they performed

when i picked up my car there was a customer who picked up his car, drove about 5 minutes and lost all brakes b/c they left the brake lines on the exhaust manifold......................... he had a rear Brembo BBK installed by them, so no e-brake.
he barely survived that one. assholes!

as Drumnjuny said, for 6k on our motor your not going to get 400 WHP, CHP yes but not real usable power. Save your money a little longer

For about 20k you can do rods, pistons, fresh head, exhaust, fueling, extra injector, extra controllers, and sequential turbos. At least if you do all the work yourself. Add 10k if you pay someone to do it. But that should get you up to 400 awhp with raging power everywhere. You can find the info you need on the diesel websites and supra forums. I should have mine up and running this year too. So after I get all the particulars worked out it should be easier to copy my setup without buying a bunch of parts you won't need after finalizing the kit.

For 6k you should just drop in rods, add exhaust, a franken turbo, and S3 injectors. That is easily your best deal for usable power.

X3, for your budget that would be the best option.

And yes as mentionned by Drumnjuny, stay away from RAI.

Even if he decided to go Apr stage 3 the kit itself is 6k so if he's not doing it himself that won't be within budget

like others have said if you want 400 chp is possible but the stock rods can't support much more then that.
either go with a franken turbo or a stock location kit from atp. for fmic and exhaust go either custom or the cheap as possible. a $1200 fmic kit is not necessarily better then a $600 kit etc.

buy a turbine and some ratcheting straps and put it on your roof. Or, small solid fuel rocket boosters. Turbos are played out son!!!

if not viable, shoehorn second motor into trunk. I saw it done on a tiburon street racer.

Agree 100% + upgraded intercooler. Even if you don't reach 400CHP you should be close and that will bring you lots of fun avoiding a lot of headaches.

I will also add that I haven't had the greatest experiences with RAI either of the times I have dealt with them and I know a half dozen other b7 owners around me who have been screwed as well. I would recommend NGP (New German Performance) up in Aberdeen to do all and any work on your Audi. Trust me lol

    Questions like these -____-

Anyways, my personal opinion: Get a cool air intake, a NOS fogger system, and a T4 turbo.

You can pull off a 6k build, but you will do the work. Rods, S3 injectors, exhaust, ebay FMIC, Frankenturbo, and a tune. You will have a very fun car.

buy an old civic, build engine with big ass turbo and you'll probably still have money left over lol
but seriously, having experienced stage 3...like others have said you need more than 6k. I started about the same as you...planning to spend 6k, ended up more than doubling that. 400chp is easily done with 6k though, 400awhp is the tough one.
GT3071R, built motor, complete fueling system upgrade etc etc.

we should not be so nice to this guy... let him in on our ways. in that spirit.... 6k is perfect for this plan: (1) buy AR-15 and 100000 rounds (2) shoot self in face (3) ??? (4) PROFIT!!!!!

What are the other 99,999 rounds for? And what would someone in CT do in thos case? Convieniently, I have 3 AR-15s already, so I'm closer to profiting.

Agree. If the OP want a track car. See the # he wants. A dune up civic would be best spent $$$$. For 6K he'd get that off.

I also agree, maybe not a civic specifically, although the bang for buck is certainly there. B5's have come down in price a lot over the last few years, you could buy a decent stage 2 s4 for 6k, or a beat up stage 3, or a vr6 turbo vw in whatever platform you fancy. I just have not seen any b7 that makes me feel like it would be a worthwhile venture to drop that kind of money into the motor.
