    Audi A4 2.8 V6 2000 - FLUIDS CHANGE

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Dear community,

It's time to change both transmission and differential fluids on my A4 2.8 V6 manual transmission.
Although I heard several times that these fluids are meant to last for the whole life of the car, I don't buy it, as the "whole life" of the car is relative. My car is 173.000km and runs perfect.
What I need to know is which fluids should I buy and where, as well as the quantities of each.
I'm not necessarily on a budget, so I would like to get something good rather than cheap.

Your input would be very appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    Regards,

    Anthony

I changed my transmission and differential oil around 160k miles and it really needed it. Transmission shifting improved greatly, especially in the colder mornings.

I used Redline MTL for the transmission and Mobile 1 75w90 gear oil for the rear diff. Some will say to use Redline MT90 as it is slightly heavier than the MTL, but I chose the MTL for better shifting in the colder times as it does not get very hot here. 3 quarts for the transmission and 1.75 for the rear diff. The drain plug on the transmission is a "tamperproof" triple square and requires a special bit to remove. I bought the MTL and bit from FCP for a reasonable price. Just picked up the gear oil for the rear diff at the local parts store. The fill plug on the transmission is 17mm allen head, while the drain and fill on the rear diff are both 10mm allen. Make sure to undo the fill plugs before the drain so that you can be sure that you can fill it up again once drained.

Depending on where you are in Toronto, give these guys a call: http://www.precisiontuning.ca/ They have probably the best prices out there and amazing selection. I'd also recommend Redline MTL, anything thicker and shifting becomes difficult until the transmission warms up in winter. The guy behind the counter at Precision recommended MTL to me for that very reason, I thought it can't be that and went with Amsoil, turns out he was right. For the diff it doesn't really matter, but I'd recommend Amsoil or Motul, any fully synthetic 75w90 will work though.

I know Precision tuning quite well, and it's really not far from where I live. I'm gonna give them a call.
Thank you so much for your replies :)
