    Centric brake pad review

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, so the weather has improved enough for me to comment on dust production from my Centric brake pads. Basically, it's similar to OEM. Maybe slightly improved but not much. Not too suprising since they're metallic. Performance is also similar to OEM (which is great). So in the end, I probably wasted a bit of cash on these and will upgrade to ceramic pads when someone gets around to releasing them.

+1, received mine last week, the color and consistency of pad material looks near OEM. Again, these are the semi-metallics so no real surprise. Another captain obvious note, I was surprised at how much larger the front pads are vs. the rear. Sure the fronts bear the load and visibly are bigger hardware, but it is really noticeable when the braking pad surface is laying side by side.

It shouldn't be that difficult to get the ceramic pads produced, as they already have the proper plates, mounting gear, dimensions for our vehicles. Would be nice to have 'em for springtime hard driving.

I mentioned it. They dust like OEMs, maybe slightly better. Not the fix I was hoping for.

EBC says "high dust" on their website for the yellow stuff pads. No thanks.

Speaking with the rep today he ensured the yellow's put out the least amount of dust of all their pads, and would be drastically less than OEM. For my suburban they advertise 90% less than stock. I wouldn't say it's that much but it is less than what OEM's were.

    Per the EBC website:

Yellowstuff is not rated as low dust and creates similar dust to OEM pads, if low dust is what you seek, Redstuff should be your choice for fast street use.

Ceramic pads are already available for your car: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/c2/...ds-shoes/16463 (In case the link is broken, they're Advance Auto Parts Wearever Gold, part number GMKD1575)

I've have this same pad formulation on my car for a couple of years now - they don't dust AT ALL. The initial bite isn't quite as good as the OEM pads, but that's to be expected, and the full braking power remains essentially unaffected. The bite/no dust tradeoff is one I'm very happy with. Here's my writeup of my experience with before/after photos:

We are talking about the S6 here. The Advance Auto Parts web site says the pad number you gave does not fit the 2014 S6.

    Au contraire, mon ami...

Look again - According to his signature, the OP's car is a 2013 S6, and the part number I cited fits that car, according to AAP's website.

Are you sure they're ceramic? They say they fit the S6 but here's the description: "Either Ceramic or Semi-Metallic depending your vehicles original equipment." I'd guess they're semi-metallic.

I guess you'd have to contact AAP to be certain.

My car came with semi-metallic pads, too, and the Wearever Golds for my car are definitely ceramic. They also don't dust at all, which was the main point in my case....

I was planing to put the Centric pads I purchased in Jan on the car when I swapped tires in a couple of weeks. Glad I read this thread. I'll check out the Wearever pads to confirm they are ceramic or wait for another manufacturer to ship them. Anyone want to buy a set of Centric pads?

I decided to put the Centric pads on the S7. The front OEM pads have vibration dampers on them. Did you reuse the old dampers or buy new? If you reused them, was it easy to get the old ones off?. Did you need any adhesive to reuse?

I had my dealer swap them out as I don't know how to do it. I don't notice any vibration or issues so I'm guessing they used the OEM dampers.

My HREs are now the victim of severe dust. Unless I use Sonax everyday, it's a futile battle. Someone PLEASE release ceramic pads.

I swapped my OEM pads both Front and Rear with Akebono Euro Ceramic pads and the difference is unbelievable; zero dust and wheels always seem clean. I don't feel performance has suffered either in regards to responsiveness or stopping distances. While my car is a C7 / A6 I would explore whether Akebono intends to release an application for the S6.

^While waiting desperately for ceramic pads, I've had some nominal success using Gtechniq C5 nano coating on my wheelsets. It at least provides for a half week of semi-decent looks and the dust can be sprayed off once or twice with water pressure only, even if the barrels still are dusted. Sonax and woolies only come out once every two weeks with a full wash.

My NIB set of front and rear semi metallics are free to a good home.

Can you just smell the market opportunity?
