HELP!!!!! 3.0 serpentine belt tensioner bolt area broken.

over weekend serpentine belt tensioner broke, while taking it off, was extremely hard to take off and top bolt of the bottom half of the tensioner, next to the alternator, never "broke loose" to where you could simply remove by hand. once i got it out. noticed where the bolt actually goes in is actually broken in half. the problematic bolt appeared to have been cross threaded before, so I'm sure this was the source of the problem.

can anybody identify this, whether this is a part or actually part of the engine block?

and just to clarify, the bolt is not broken, the threaded part where the bolt actually threads into is broke.

Hard to take good picture, but located below the timing belt cover.

In partial service position. So it's difficult to take definitive picture of it with what I have.

    thank you!

i circled the problematic thread hole. and it appears to be the crankcase cover as shown above.

so now all i have to do is figure out what the hell to do now!

what are all my options, replace the cover or try helicoil, anything else??

I would use a helicoil and never think about it again. Or drill and tap up to the next size, then drill the new tensioner so that your new bolt fits.

Or..... You could weld the hole close, then drill and tap for the normal bolt. This is probably the best option, besides getting a new cover. I have used helicoils before, and none of them ever failed. I tend to prefer to just drill up a size, but since the tensioner is pre drilled, I dont think youd fit a larger bolt in without drilling it.

    got some images!

one thing of concern that i noticed on the top image is that it appears to be further cracked.

furthermore, can this be re threaded etc?

Can't be rethreaded from what I can see. You look to be missing one of the sides. Maybe have it welded if you can't find a decent priced cover

What about drilling it out and using a longer bolt with a nut? No idea if that is even possible with the limited access.
