Taking a Used, Non CPO Car in for first maintenance

I bought my S4 used and it is not a CPO. The service needed message comes on now when I start the car so I wanted to get it checked out. Do you guys recommend only an Audi dealership to touch these cars? Or are other German-focused maintenance shops a viable alternative? Thanks in advance

If the car is still under warranty , take it to an Audi dealer. If not, use the German car specialist. it will save you some money .

Since it is not a warranty issue and it is not a CPO, nothing says you must go to an Audi dealer, especially if there are some reputable Independent Audi/German shops near you.
Since your signature shows the car is tuned, a shop with some experience in modding would probably be safest way to go. I have had not had any experience with Stasis, so others on the forum can probably tell you if going to an Audi shop that has installed and services Stasis tuned Audi's might be a good idea. It's certainly going to be cheaper going indy.

The minute my old A4 no longer had a warranty I never went to the dealership again. I drove the car to 98,000 miles and the last 45K I serviced the car at Indy shops. Do some research, ask on the forum and find a good shop. You won't regret it.

Seeing the car is tuned. If you do have a warranty, taking it to an Audi dealer will get you a TD1 designation and a voided warranty.

Is there a cheaper way? I don't want to spend $300+ to reset a code every once in awhile. Not sure I am interested in the other features provided by it either.

I think some shops will reset it for you, perhaps for a small fee. Or make acquaintance with someone in Houston with a vag-com (I've seen folks reach out this way in the regional forums).
