OIL CONSUMPTION WARRANTY - wtih apr flash

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My oil consuption is currently normal on my '09. I'd like to do an APR flash, but would that void any chance of warranty coverage if my car were to consume oil in the future?

    Thx,
    Aaron

If oil consumtion has been very low, and your at lets say 40k, chances are its not going to start correct? I mean if its gonna drink oil it will show tell tale signs from the beginning.

Funny thing is I stopped into Prime Audi in westwood today, service rep explained to me that many of the guys they service have 2 ecu's, and just swap them out after having service done.

I have always thought about that, wonder how much that would cost and how hard would it be to have it coded

He said surprisingly the cost of ECU's has gone down. One can be had for UNDER 1k, weather or not thats worth it for someone to be off the radar depends on the individual. For me? I'll be looking into it.

Gotta love being told point blank by the service rep how to avoid the mothership.

Do you think AoA browses this site? I know Mitsubishi and Subaru spy on evoloutionm and Iwsti

Not bad. Coding it to work with your car must be a pain though

That's interesting, I had always read that wasn't feasible. If it is, then it seems to me the thing for tuners to do is offer pre-flashed ECUs. Put in the "performance" ECU, then store your original w/o doing anything to it, and revert to it if ever necessary.

I had 2 ecu's for my b6. One for stock injectors, and second for 550cc's and 26psi of GT2871r german fury.

How can one gauge whether their dealership is mod-friendly?

I just drove in with my nos tuner stickers and F1 trunk wing like whuddup.

In all seriousness though, I just struck up a conversation with my service rep, just feel him out if hes a stiff or not (personality wise). Then just mention, "hey, off the record..." Of course asking BEFORE you mod is a good idea when you are unsure.

    haha! @b6Hate4

I'll have to give it a whirl. I already did a stage one Revo and H&R rear sway bar. the Revo can be reflashed easy enough but would prefer to keep as is. I doubt the rear sway bar would have any affect on warranty.

The day a service rep tells me a sway bar is the reason my engine consumes oil....lol. I would laugh in his face and lawyer up.

I think we ought to make a huge effort of financially and ideologically supporting mod-friendly dealerships. A lot of this TD1 nonsense will end when Audi realizes exactly how many of their customers like to build on their cars and how robust and stable our mod community is compared to the morons duct-taping coffee cans to the exhaust of their Honda Civics.

If we actually made a consolidated effort to all use dealerships that support us, the rest would be forced to rely on the elderly and the milquetoast people who aren't really interested in cars who buy Audi, which isn't exactly a large market share.

While we're on the topic, anybody know an Audi dealer in Bucks County or Montgomery County Pennsylvania that's friendly towards chipping and other mods? I'm trying to go Stage 2 this summer and I bought the extended warranty.

Couldn't agree more. The first question I was asked when I went in for my stage 2 oil consumption repair was "are you tuned?" Then, as though they didn't take my word for it, a tech came out admiring my car and asked what I'd done to her. He casually worked his way toward "have you done a tune?" I'm at 69k and still won't tune only because I've had some significant repairs taken care of out of warranty and I'm not screwing that up for myself. To the OP, my excessive consumption didn't start until after after 50k so just because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean a B8 is home free. Good luck!

It used to be super easy, I had two for my B5. The problem now is the immobilizer circuit. It can be done but from my research requires coding every time you swap. Seems like a huge pain in the rear and also made it harder to swap out if your car breaks down, unless you want to carry a computer and cable with you. On my B5 I just needed the ECU and an 8mm wrench.
