power folding side view mirrors inoperable

I have a 2008 audi a4 s line. Recently I realized that I have the option for the power folding side mirrors. This is indicated by a folding mirror icon at the 6 o'clock position of the side view mirror adjustment knob.
The issue I am having is they seem to be inoperable. I have tried many combinations of turning the knob (car running, off, key in accessory mode ect) and I can't get any action whatsoever out of either mirror. I have done various searches and find it hard to believe that this issue hasn't come up before.
    Am I missing something?

The car has 50k on it and I just find it hard to believe that it is already broken!

Having the nob in normal operating position with the key in the on position (engine can be on or off). While key is in this position, rotate nob 180 degrees to the folding position. This is the correct way your mirrors should work.

Same here, no pressing of the button is necessary.
