You seriously want to put a HITCH on the back of your Avant?

I'm considering adding a hitch to my Avant. It is a 2.8 6 cylinder, so it not an underpowered 1.8 4 cylinder. I plan to use it just 4 times a year for a very short distance to put my jet skis and jet boat into the water during the spring and out of the water in the fall at my lake home. Each trailer with watercraft on it weighs less than 2,000 lbs, so I should not be exceeding the weight capacity of a class 1 trailer hitch. Not sure about the tongue weight, but I should be good there too.

That being said, I see that there are two different types of CURT Manufactured hitches that fit a 2001 B5 A4 Quattro Avant. The 111693 and the 111692 Euromount in either case I'll use a 2" ball. I like the looks of the 111692 and I personally would rather mount that to the frame than to drill holes into the wheel well like the 11693 requires. My question is will the Euro mount even fit?

Beyond the mechanics of actually putting a hitch on, I'd have to install trailer wiring and not have that cause problems with the ECU. That brings me to the next part of this:

    Hopkins 46255 Power Taillight Converter

I figured that I'd just wire it up on the inside of the trunk, then on the remote times that I actually have to use it, I could stick the wire out under the rear hatch.

    Does anyone have suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure on fitment, but the Euro piece is way better. If you can possibly use that, do it.

And wiring in trunk and run out the back when needed is how it's done. You don't want to drill holes or leave it exposed. Bad news all around.

I'll second the Euromount hitch, it looks much better. The first one bolts through the spare tire well and I just don't trust that mounting system, plus you have to drill a bunch of holes in the body.

I installed the first one, and had I seen the second one, it would have been preferred. I think I ran the wiring out the tailight, under the bumper, so its pretty clean looking.
