    Extended warranty help please!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Guys I know I don’t post ever, however I do read posts here often to learn. I am now asking for some help on an extended warranty. I have a 2010 Ibis S4. I currently have 9500 miles on it and I bought it new in May of 2010. When I bought it they told me if I wanted an extended warranty I needed to buy it before I had 10,000 miles on it. I called the dealer that I bought the car from today and got a price quote and details. I can get a Platinum Fidelity 6 year low mileage warranty for $2075, which has a $100 deductible. I asked them if the 6 years started from the original date of vehicle purchase and they said no. They added that the 6 years start from the date of the warranty purchase. That comes down to $345 a year for 6 years and is transferable for $50. Does the 6 years from date of warranty purchase sound right as opposed to date of vehicle purchase? Also does the price sound good? Thanks guys!!

What is the mileage that comes with your 6 yrs?

Most contracts I've seen start the time (months of coverage) from the date of signing, and the miles are total miles on the odometer. So it you bought 72k miles, when the odometer reaches 72k or you exceed 6 yrs from purchase the contract is over.
That is a very fair price for a 72mo/72k mile warranty.

My advice would be to get the name of the company backing up the warranty and do a Google search. 90% of extended warranties are junk from what I've heard although there are a couple of companies out there that are reputable. Again, get the company name and do the Google search to see what you're getting into. Even if the price is fair, better to have eyes wide open.

this just sounds way too good to be true...most extended warranties last another 2-3 years after original warranty up or up to 100K miles and cost is 3-4K from what I have seen.

My understanding is that Fidelity is who Audi dealers use for an extended warranty. I am just in a different place then most drivers since I have such low miles after almost 4 years. If I buy it they will mail me the paperwork to look over and sign. The $2075 was not the retail price.

I too recently bought a extended warranty (Power train only). The price you got is excellent and Fidelity is a very known company. Get it, because usually it would cost others that has higher mileage at least 4k for the platinum plan.

Yes, that is the way Fidelity warranties work and they provide extended warranties for Audi and Lexus among others - very reputable IMO. Term and mileage starts when you buy it - mine is 100K miles purchased at just under 25K miles so it will go to just under 125K miles. You can always ask the dealer to see the warranty paperwork before signing (I did). I also recommend contacting fd-warranty, which is where I bought mine. They sell the same exact fidelity warranties as other Audi dealers. I priced at my dealer and felt they were way out of line, likely because the F&I guy used 25K miles in his system instead of actual miles that were 24,9xx at the time. Prices ratchet at 10K and then again at 25K.

I also forgot to mention it is 60,000 miles on top of my 9500. The 60k starts from date of warranty purchase.

Here's results from a quick Google search. There are pages and pages of results (mostly bad). *Please* do research before accepting their "great deal."

If this is Fidelity they almost always use total miles not added to existing on a 'new car' extended warranty.

I have a Fidelity warranty. They add time and miles to the date and mileage on the car on the date you buy the extended warranty. Original in service date and end of base warranty miles do not affect the expiration of the extended warranty. I bought a 5/100 in February 2014 with 24,9xx miles on the car so it expires at the earlier of February 2019 or 124,9xx miles on the car. Not all extended warranties (including CPO and AAA) work like this. You can get the warranty in PDF to review it yourself...

How do they know the mileage when you buy it (inevitable next question)? Either the selling dealer sees it or, if you buy from FD Warranty or another out of state dealer, you send a letter telling them the mileage on the car that day. That information is included in the warranty agreement you received.

I had done an extensive search a month ago (traded the car instead), but as long as you buy from an Audi dealer (Zurich and Fidelity) you should be fine. I would say with what you were quoted- that's a great price for full coverage. I would stay clear from "internet companies" with no firm, reputable foundation- I believe they're time bombs waiting until their claims hit a threshold, then they go bust leaving the consumer high a dry. That's my .02, not the opinion of Audizine management, the employee's or their families.

I've heard great things about fidelity, they def seem to be the best out there, I know several people who have them, if I were looking for an aftermarket warranty I would go with fidelity. Price seems cheap, last time I searched it was for a Porsche and the price was way more than that for 4 years.

While researching I'm pretty sure I read you can buy the warranty from any car dealer and the price does vary, I think a guy got one for his Porsche but by going to a honda dealer got it for $900 less than the Porsche dealer wanted. The dealer doesn't care where you got it, they get reimbursed for warranty work regardless.

If I were to ever purchase a warranty I would only purchase an exclusionary warranty that details specifically what is and isn't included. I would say 95% of aftermarket warranties are junk, including what is sold by dealers.

Personally, I even opted out of a CPO warranty because my 2012 still has 30k new car warranty left (June, 2016).. That's 2k I saved up front on a warranty I may never use and can be put in a "repair" fund to make me money while it waits. I don't get the obsession with warranties.

Fidelity Platinum level plans are exclusionary. Certain manufacturers, including Audi, do not underwrite extended warranties. Fidelity is sold by Audi, VW, Lexus, Toyota and others. I had one previously on my Lexus and have one now on my S4. They have been around a long time. Could you explain why you think these warranties may be junk?

You will be denied your warranty if you have any mods to your car. Not a denied claim, they just literally have a clause that says if your car is modified in any way the warranty is cancelled.

^ I don't have mods and think it makes more sense to spend money on mods OR a warranty (not both), but I read the Fidelity policy very similarly to factory in this regard. No coverage for non-OEM parts or damage caused by non-OEM parts. I didn't see a paragraph that voids the entire warranty if you simply have mods. That would require them to refund the policy costs under most state laws if the warranty is simply cancelled, I would think.

Yes, they state the refund at a pro-rate - to be clear, not as familiar with the fidelity policy specifically.
